Dream On - Prima Marketing

Let's finish the month with some projects I've done for Prima Marketing! First up is this dark and maybe even regal canvas from yesterday's post about the two new texture pastes at the company blog.

To me “Unicorn Paste” is about twinkle and shine! Even though you’d probably think about something white and sweet connected to Unicorns, I really like the look of the paste on top of a dark surface as well. It’s like twinkling stars or shaved ice.

For this canvas I went with a regal color scheme of purple and gold. I used different sparkly and shiny product ranging from the Metallique paints to waxes and golden pearls. Hope you like it!

Thank you for your visit today! Have a pleasant day!

Illustrate your life - GDT AALL & Create

Moikka! Can you believe it's already Wednesday? It seems that the older I get the faster the time moves, weeks just fly by! Here's a little something I did as a guest designer to AALL & Create using some of the new stamps. You can see the new designs for example in here (link) at the brand's Facebook page.

What I really love about these stamps is their sketchy look. I fell in love with "Numbered Pencils" the moment I saw it and also love the "XXX" as it's so versatile. This time I did a journal page with the two and added also some background work with stencil "Diamond Life"." Underneath you can see a "wip" photo of the project.

The green in the page was inspired by an old postage stamp. I first to add it in the journal as well, but then decided against it as I made my own stamps using the AALL & Create stamp set. The old postman is cut from a paper by 7 Dots Studio - I thought he fitted the theme perfectly!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a lovely day!

Mirrored images - Art Daily Cafe

Hello there! Today I'm sharing my monthly project for Art Daily Cafe with this month’s theme of “Fresh Eyes”. The topic together with the color of the month, emerald, lead me to think about spring, new beginning and fresh stems.

I was pondering how I’d add the theme to my page. My first thought was using the mirror. That’s also something I say when I keep a workshop and sometimes use it myself, too. If you are stuck with a project, you need a fresh pair of eyes. If you are like me and want a project done, you might not want to wait a day or some time and come back to the piece with fresh pair of eyes. Speedy tricks to see the project from another view is to turn it around 180 degrees or to use a mirror to see it in another way. The change of view point gives you a fresh pair of eyes.

My first thought was to use a mirror to craft the whole piece. But after trying it a bit I realized that first, that way it would take me days and days to finish as everything is the wrong way around and second, my head would start hurting as my brain couldn’t understand what it was being put to process. So off with that idea although it did intrigue me.

Instead of actually using a mirror I tried to do the project in a different way, doing it step by step with pauses in between and not my usual from start to finish in one go. I also did the spread so that the pages are somewhat mirrored and used “scraps” – kind of looking them with fresh eyes and seeing their beauty rather than just throwing them away. What’s also mirrored is the little suns – I stamped them to a piece of transparency, then colored the back and last flipped them around to reveal the design.

What I learned during the making of the page is that I can’t change who I am or rather how I craft. Being “Speedy Gonzales” as my friend describes me is an essential part of my process and crafting. Doing the two pages slowly caused me more stress than relief and I felt that in this way the project led me less than with my usual style just going with the flow. So, in a way, the project showed me to myself with fresh eyes.

As I usually share some tips in these posts, let’s not go without this time either. While writing this, an exhibition of the works of RenĂ© Magritte has just opened in Amos Rex, a Finnish art museum. It’s the first time his art is shown in Finland, at least to this extent. RenĂ© Magritte was a surrealist, so you need fresh eyes to see his work or have a fresh pair after seeing them. In the exhibition text it’s stated that “the familiar is suddenly bafflingly strange”. For green inspiration try “Le Blanc Seing”, “The Son of Man” or “The Listening Room”.

The other tip might be doing as I do – try a new style of creating. If you normally ponder about the composition and colors, try being quick and make fast decisions. On the other hand, if you are a quick crafter like me, try to slow down, think about the composition, try different positions and really take your time. You might learn something profound about yourself and your style of creating.

All the best and thank you for stopping by today!

You, love this - Prima Marketing

Hi there and happy new week! Today I'm sharing some cards I made recently for Prima Marketing. You can see the original blog post in the company blog here (link)

I was using St Patrick’s Day as my inspiration for these tropical cards. I incorporated green elements and mediums to them. I made the first layer using mint colored Impasto paint and then used the emerald colored Icing Paste for the stenciled, dimensional layer. I even managed to add a “gold coin” to the other tag! I made that using the “Stars and Moons” mould and gilded it with waxes.

Thank you for your visit! See you again tomorrow!

Story Time - 7 Dots Studio

Sweet Sunday! Today I'm sharing my monthly project for 7 Dots Studio. When I started to think what to do, the current season spark my interest. While I write this, there’s still snow on the ground here in Finland, but the temperatures are raising and especially there’s more sunny days now! So, we are headed to spring!

I thought the Garden Party collection fitted the spring theme wonderfully, when the nature bursts into life after the winter. As I’ve done ATCs using the beautiful flower prints on the “Dreamy” 12x12, I thought to do a layout this time. And when I saw this photo of my two girls reading, it all fell in place. I created a layout with a secret garden vibe, referring to the wonderful world of books and well, the book my same name, although I haven’t read that to the kids yet.

I started the page by adding some patterned paper on top of the one from the Domestic Goddess, then added some masking tape as well and then brought the mediums in. To me adding those mediums to the mix makes all the difference. With them I can leave my own hand print to the papers. So, if you want to see how I made the layout, please see the video!

I hope you enjoyed the video and find a spark of inspiration in it! If you haven’t scrapbooked the wonderful world of books yet, maybe that’s something you could try?

Thank you for stopping by today! Ta ta for now!

Happiness is Homemade - Wow Embossing / Fab Scraps

Hello there! Here's another item I made using the FabScrap and Wow! Embossing Powder items.

I started the canvas by making the stenciled pattern around the edge using Modeling Paste. While it was still wet, I sprinkled the embossing powder on top and then heated it. I also used the embossing powders to decorate and make some of the embellishments. I used a silicone moulds to make a multicolored heart and some silver buttons and coated the FabScrap chipboard shape with white powder.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a great start to the weekend!

Love you - Wow! Embossing Powder

Moikka! I made two little cards using Wow! Embossing Powders and FabScraps papers. This co-operation was happening while I still was in Wow's design team and I decided to share these and a canvas, which I also did. I'm sharing the canvas tomorrow. I used pastel colored powders inspired by the FabScrap papers I used. Both of the cards are made the same way, just one with pinks and one with blues.

I added a couple strips of patterned paper to the background as well as a few washi tape strips. Then I added a stenciled layer on top using embossing powder. I also added a little stamped detail in there using a FabScrap stamp and another color of embossing powder. I chose yellow as it went perfectly to both of the cards. Then I cut some characters out of a patterned paper and layered them on top using foam dots. Lastly I backed the card with a solid piece of cardstock matching the colors used in the card.

I hope you like these! They are simpler than the projects I usually do, but I thought they'd showcase the two brands well. The mixed media person in me sometimes craves for something clean and simple! For more detail pictures, please keep on scrolling down.

Thank you for stopping by today!
