Tiny mixed media houses - 7 Dots Studio

Hi there! Today I'm sharing some tiny houses with you. I wanted to do something a bit different this time for 7 Dots Studio, so I decided to alter these tiny wooden houses using 7 Dots Studio products. 

My wish was to make the houses connected to winter or even to the Holiday season. I chose papers with pale backgrounds to cover the houses but mixed in a darker grey as well. But the pattern fitted to the theme so well, stars! I coated the blocks with paper, added some stamping to all sides and then made a cluster of elements to the front. The pieces are from the “Dreamscapes” die cut sheet. On top I then chose a wintery word from the “Northern Lights” word stickers. If you want to see the process, please see the video! 

After the paper elements, as you can see from the video, I then added some mediums to make the houses icy and sparkly. I used two different texture pastes on them, mostly concentrating to the roofs like there was snow on the rooftops. I added some sequins and beads, too, to make them more sparkly. As a finishing touch I made some icicles using hot glue.

Your rainbow aura

 

Colorful Monday y'all! Here's a little, special piece I made for a friend. Or rather, friend of a friend. This friend has just discovered mixed media and journaling and my friend asked me to do a little collage for her to give inspiration. I tackled the task enthusiastically and created this little piece.

The first background layer is a monoprint using a Gelli Arts printing plate. On top I collaged some old book paper and receipts. I included some washi tape in there as well, some stenciling, some doodling... Well, let's just say that I had a ball with this one!

Countdown to Create - 7 Dots Studio

Hello there! Today I'm sharing  a process video of an art journal page I made for 7 Dots Studio. This time I used different 7 Dots Studio papers and several mediums. 

I often start my projects that I gather some mediums or materials to my worktable. I seldom have a perfect vision what I’m going to do, but more let the materials and the process lead me. Like in this case I had the idea of using that ledger-styled paper as my background and doing some tape transfers on top using the other 12x12 paper with text print. I also pondered upon using the sun motif cut out from the 12x12 sheet and making some kind of title using the letters in one of the 6x6 sheets. Other than that, I didn’t have a clear vision. I just started doing and eventually everything found a place.

Flower cards - 7 Dots Studio

Moikka! Today I'm sharing a set of cards I did for 7 Dots Studio. I used the same composition and elements in each card but changed the colors of the mediums and papers to each. 

The inspiration for these was the 12x12 sheet “Dreamy” from “Garden Party” collection. I guess the blooms reminded me of more sunny, summery days as the autumn and winter glooms in. I wanted to highlight the sunny feel also with my choice of papers and picked colorful ones over the vintage tea-toned colors I usually am drawn to.

I started the cards by cutting the blooms from the sheet. Then I paired each flower with a 6x6” sheet and a tag. After that I began to layer some mediums to the background starting with gesso and continuing with two types of ink. I also added a wax seal to each card to act as a interesting detail but also to lock the thread I added around the card in place. Cosmic ATCs - WOW! Embossing Powder

Heippa! Today I'm sharing something I made over 6 months ago, oopsie. These were made as small examples for then new WOW! embossing powders, the other set by Seth Apter. The set is called "Cosmic", so probably no wonder I started thinking of nebulae and stars. 

To show off that beautiful sparkle and shine the powders have, I made them on top of black surface. The composition of cards is really simple - some powders and splashes to the background, piece of embossed die cut starry lace on top with a stapler and finish the cards using a metal star and some text stickers. I wanted to give the powders the maximum possibility to shine! 

To get that beautiful nebula look I used another product from the Seth Apter range in the cards. That's the mixed media brush! I pained some embossing ink to the cards and then added the powders on top. The brush allowed me to get an area with a lot of powder, like the dense dust area and other areas with less powder, getting that starry look.

Dreaming of spring - 7 Dots Studio

Hello there! Today I'm sharing a set of ATCs I did for 7 Dots Studio with you. I made these little more than a month ago when there was already autumn vibes in the air. The days were still warm, but the nights were getting colder and crispier and you could feel the seasons start to change. I picked the color palette up from this season when everything starts to wither but added a sight of spring in the cards by using the little eggs cut from a 12x12 sheet.

I used a pale toned 12x12 sheet as my background for the cards. Instead of cutting 2½x3½” pieces of it, I cut the pieces slightly smaller and backed them using a solid kraft colored cardstock. I attached the layers to each other with sewing to add a little interest to the background. On top I then layered a bunch of elements and mediums.
