Thankful jars - Canvas Corp Brands

A few weeks ago my daughters started their summer vacation so little presents for the day care teachers were in order. This time we did pancake jars together. The dry ingredients for apple cinnamon pancakes are inside the jar and the card holds the recipe for them. If you'd like to try out the recipe, I've included it below. As you can see we also made some roses to decorate the jars using Hama beads and a embroidery pattern.

These jars also thankful for another reason. They are my last project for Canvas Corp Brands. I'm really thankful for the time I got to design for the company and showcase the three different brands that make the Canvas Corp - Canvas Corp, Tattered Angels and 7Gypsies. So thank you for the bottom of my heart for all the support, trust and assignments! I'm sure to follow the Creative Studio blog still to keep up what the great team has in store for inspiration!

When another post ends another one continues. The new 7 Dots Studio regular design team got announced a few days ago and I'm so happy that I can continue with the brand! There's also a few new designers announced so you should take a peek on the company blog to see all the wonderful, super talented people in the team! Please follow this link (link)

Thank you so much for your visit today! Wishing you a lovely week!

Apple cinnamon pancakes

in the jar:
4 dl flours
1 dl sugar
1 tl salt
8 tl cinnamon
2 tl  baking powder
2 dl dried apples (in cubes)

needed for the dough:
4 dl sour cream (Nordic kind)
2 eggs
4 rkl oil or melted butter

Mix first all the dry ingredients together and then add the sour cream, eggs and oil. Mix until smooth. Heat a pancake pan and add a touch of oil or butter so the dough won't stick. Scoop a spoonful of the dough to the pan and bake until golden brown. Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh apple jam.

Enjoy 2015 - Canvas Corp Brands

It's Friday and almost weekend! Do you have any plans for the weekend? I'm working tomorrow but no plans so far for Sunday. Plans and planners are the topic of a new Canvas Corp Crew post. They are so trendy right now, don't you think?

I don't have a planner but I do have a small calendar where I mark all my work shifts and other events. For next Monday there's a big marking of my first ever Ustream show (link)

As the inside of the calendar is full of markings and dates I couldn't do anything inside but the black cover was just screaming some painty touches making it mine. I also added a tag to the black ribbon the calendar already had. I thought the "Live Every Day" fitted the theme quite well.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a nice weekend!

The Dress - Canvas Corp Brands

Today I share a project made for a Canvas Corp Crew challenge. The assignment was to be inspired by a designer. I chose to go with a clothes designer and ended up documenting my wedding dress which I designed myself.

I'm not sure if you already now but I studied clothes design back in the day. While in the polytechnic I got a book about John Galliano and was so inspired by the sketches in the book. His drawings were very influential to my style to draw sketches of clothes. So when I read the challenge I immediately thought to go with a clothes designer rather than one in the craft industry. I reached for Galliano book and drew inspiration of a picture of his journal for a collection. Loved the different fabric swatches in his journal, the small sketches and details.

Then came the next part - what to do. As I was going for the clothes way anyway I decided to document my own wedding dress as I haven't done that before. I dig up my original sketch, some of the inspiration pictures and even found some fabric swatches to go with them. We were wed in February so the dress was made out of wool satin and had a removable fake fur collar.

Great walk down the memory lane with this one! Thank you for stopping by!

Ship Ahoy - Canvas Corp Brands

Ship Ahoy! Here's a layout I did for Canvas Corp Brands using the 7Gypsies Maritime collection. The collection is great for everything connected with sea and seafare. But why there's a picture of me scrapping in there, then, you might ask. Well, as the title suggests there was a ship that was filled with scrappers. The picture is taken of an event last summer and the venue was a museum ship in Turku, a coastal town in Finland.

As I love blue and turquoise I used those colors from the collection. But there's also shades of old maps and navigational charts available if you like neutrals more. The maps and globes go also very well to pages connected with travelling.

Besides the papers from the collection I also used some pieces of the Ephamera pack and also the Nautical stamps. There's also touches of Tattered Angels mist and paint in there - like sprays from the waves and sea foam.

Thank you for stopping by today! Until next time!

Recipe holder - Canvas Corp Brands

Hello there and happy Sunday evening! Today I'm sharing with you a quick touch-up.

It was one of my teen birthdays that a friend gave me a recipe holder. It is a small binder with ready blank recipe cards inside. Ever since I've been adding tried and liked recipes inside but what I have actually never liked are the covers. So now that we had a recipe challenge over at Canvas Corp I finally got to it and changed the cover!

First I painted the edges of the cover with black gesso and then added pieces of the "Farmhouse Kitchen Reverse on Ivory" paper on top. Lastly I wrapped the whole thing under a layer of sticky back plastic to protect the surface from wear and tear. It was done in no time and now I'm even happy with the look of the binder, not just the insides!

Wishing you a great start to the new week! Thank you for stopping by today!

Drink ATCs - Canvas Corp Brands

Let's celebrate! Today I share my other post using the Mixology collection. This time I transformed the colorful little drinks into sparkling ATCs!

I started by cutting the drinks from the "Drinks and Dreams" paper and colored them. As I wanted the cards to be fun and colorful I chose to go with a yellow background but layered a few pieces of the "Halloween Pin Dot" on top just to give the drinks a more background and lead the eye in. The sayings from the "Mixology Butcher" paper became the finishing touch in these also giving the names for the cards.

To add a little extra to the cards I added a lot of sparkle to them using plain dry glitter and also Tattered Angels glimmering products. The background has a spray of Glimmer Mist underneath the ray styled pieces of paper and on top of them is Glimmer Glam.

So sparkle and enjoy, but don't forget to share also! Until next time!

Drinks invitations - Canvas Corp Brands

Kippis and toast! It's something vibrant here! Today I'm sharing the first of my two Mixology posts using the Mixology collection from Canvas Corp. The collection is all about drinks and having fun. The patterned papers in the collection are black and white so you can color them to anything and also mix them with the bright colors of the other Canvas Corp papers.

For this post I created two invitations with the Mixology line. I used Copic feltpens to color the drinks and combined parts of "Mixology Butcher" paper as the invitation part. The backing is a colorful dotted paper actually from a Halloween collection but the mixed dots go so well with the theme.

The invitations are super easy to make, it's basically just layering pieces of paper. You just need to make each layer larger than the one coming on top of it. And the last layer should be in the size you can get an envelope to!

First cut the "Mixology Butcher" paper apart. Use the segments as the top layer and add a piece of the "Coctails and Dreams" paper underneath. The last layer is the "Halloween Pin Dot on White". Finish the card with a little greeting cut from the "Mixology Butcher" paper.

Constructing the invitation this way you have all the decorations on the front and the back is all white - ready for your invitation text!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a sweet weekend!

Life is too short - Canvas Corp Brands

Holy Saturday! Have you noticed the new lifestyle collections by Canvas Corp? This one is done with the Vino collection, please click here to view the post about the collection (link). And if you are wondering what kind of collections there is, you can see them all in the shop

As the name says, the Vino collection is about wine. But even if you aren't into the drinks themselves, there's still plenty you can do with the collection! I myself am not a wine drinker at all. Red wine isn't to my taste and I rarely drink white either. But what caught my eye in the collection were the bottle openers! Don't you just love how there's so many varieties of those tools? And how well they fit to a steam punk style as well!

For this piece I used the Vino collection papers, but there's not much wine present in the cover. I cut a few bottle openers and the numbers loose from different papers in the collection and added some canvas also in the layers. To get the steam punk style feeling to the cover I added different mists and paints on top. The mists I added using a brush so that I could really get the color just where I wanted.

The little book can be used as an art journal but with the kitchen style theme it can also hold recipes or even be a food-concentrated travel journal!

Thank you for your visit! Wishing you a peaceful Easter time.

Now is the right time - Canvas Corp Brands

Spring is in the air and that makes me think green! My inspiration for these invitations was spring and nature – they could be used for picnic or a brunch with green feel. Why invitations you might ask? Well, there's a new Crew challenge over at Canvas Corp Brands. This time we inspire you with different, easy invitations and share some tips how to make a bunch of them fast!

These little invitations have a twist – the pattern is on the inside as lines to write on! A touch of your own handwriting gives the invitation a personal touch. As you usually need to make a bunch of invitations at once I kept the design pretty easy to make and duplicate.

First I cut the card bases out of the 12x12” sheet. Then I scored them and folded in half. After that I added a touch of mist to the fold and dried the cards with a heat tool. Then I added some pencil swirls to each one and attached the heart tag to the cover and also glued the bow on top. Lastly I stamped the wording underneath the tag.

Anything pre-cut is a way to get the job done faster so diecuts and tags are fabulous for invitations. Letter stamps or even sayings make also crafting faster. And what also makes a great difference is the equipment – good tools make crafting enjoyable and do the job every time!

Thank You card - Canvas Corp

Today is an oldie! This card along with the step directions was blogged in Canvas Corp's own blog last year. Oopsie! Well, better late than ever, right? The card was made Thanksgiving in mind, but there’s much more to be thankful for also! Why should we be thankful only once a year so to say?

I used the “Farmhouse Kitchen” collection in the card. There’s just a card and a two pieces of 12×12″ sheets put together and finished with a piece of the hemp rope. If you want to make something similar, I have the steps underneath. Thank you for your visit!

1. Cut the “Thank You” note card in half from the fold line.
2. Cut a slightly larger piece from the ivory cardstock, for example 4″ x 5½”.
3. Attach the note card to the ivory cardstock with a few lines of double sided tape to secure it stays put. Avoid putting the adhesive near the edges.
4. Sew around the note card using a zig zag stitch. Pull the threads to the back and secure with a knot or a piece of tape.
5. Add a touch of color to the artichoke using crayons, felt pens or watercolor crayons. You can also use mists like watercolors.
6. Cut a card base from the patterned paper – for example 6″ x 12″. Fold in half.
7. Using 3 D foam squares attach the note card piece to the card base.
8. Finish the card with a few rounds of the hemp rope. Attach the rope just by knotting it inside the card or use washi tape with a suitable pattern.
(9. Add a few home made cookies, something sweet or the receiver’s favorite tea to a brown paper bag and give it with your card.)

Fun ahoy! - Canvas Corp Brands

Fun ahoy! Today it’s a nautical feeling in the post with the new Canvas Corp navy papers. Canvas Corp has released quit a few new life style collections including two maritime themed. The other has kraft and white color scheme and the other great, modern mix of navy blue and coral. The patterns on each go well with any maritime project. The collections also mix well with the existing papers.

The release week also means a great many blog posts in the Brands blog. Here's a link to my original one (link), but there's a ton more inspiration in there! Like this minialbum from Ginny Nemchak or this layout by Erin Reed! You can also see both the new nautical collections from this link (link).

I started this page by adding pieces of two patterned papers on top on a plain navy blue one. Then I applied some gesso under the placement of my photos and misted two different blues on top creating water-like effect. On top I then added delicate pattern using another mist and a circle stencil. I also stamped a few compases using the 7Gypsies “Under the sea” stamps. To finish the splashy, wavy like effect I then flicked white High Impact paint to the page.

I used the flags from the sampler paper as decorations on my page and also added a saying “ahoy” from there. The title is made using chipboard alphas from 7Gypsies. The layout is finished with a flair button, chipboard compas and a few epoxy stickers.

Thank you for visiting today! Please see the new papers arriving to the store from this link!

Be your own kind of beautiful - Canvas Corp Brands

"The best things in life aren't things, they are moments"

Today I'm sharing you a page together with a video that I created for Canvas Corp Brands using the 7Gypsies "Gypsy Moments" collection.

As the name of the collection suggests, it's all about those little moments that add up to life itself. Inspired by that, I thought to document this one moment when my husband and my older daughter were waking up. It's just one of those fleeting moments, but I built the whole page around the warmth of the moment and the pale morning colors.I used the pale green "Take Our Breath Away" paper as my background as it had the vibe of an early spring morning in it. I used green and yellow together in my palette, using it across the page, in papers, embellishments and also in the mists I chose to use. To me they make up a great spring palette with a touch of warmth and happiness.

The quote from "Poses and Reflections" paper fitted my theme well, so I used that little card as a title for the page. I also added a canvas shape in my page to bring that texture in there. Underneath is a little video showing how I made the page.

It really is those little moments in life that are the most precious ones. I was lucky to have my phone at hand that morning so I could capture the moment, their expressions on film. The great thing with mobiles is really their cameras, in my opinion. It makes it so easy to capture those everyday things that really are the most important ones in the long run!

Thank you for stopping by today! Please also check other projects made with the same collection like this minialbum by Erin Reed or these inspirational files by Sheila Rumney. You can see all the 7Gypsies projects from this link.

PS. After publishing this post I'm going to raffle the social media winners in my giveaways! So if you have taken part, now's the time to check if you have been victorious!

Remember the moments - Canvas Corp Brands

Hello there! Happy Valentines Day to everyone! Today I'm not sharing a pink love themed project but instead a turquoise small canvas. But there's love in here and on all my social media platforms as well. So if you're in for a giveaway, please check my blog's Facebook, Twitter or Instagram

But back to the project. This 4x4 canvas is created for Canvas Corp Brands. We got an assignment, a challenge to create a piece that represents us. So immediately I knew my color scheme had to be turquoises, blues and greens.

We were given the freedom to use the canvas any way we wanted but limiting the design more or less inside the 4x4 square. I flipped my canvas the other way around and created a shadow box style thing with it. The key element is a light bulb but there's many other elements as well like bottle caps and a clasp. All the brands are present in the canvas.

This day also marks the day of the big announcement in Canvas Corp's blog - the team is revealed! You can meet them all here and here's the link to the original post. In there you can vote for your favorite piece and the crew member receives some Canvas Corp bucks!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you all a sweet Valentines Day!

Baby cards - Canvas Corp Brands

Hello there! Here's something else that was seen in CHA booth of Canvas Corp Brands - set of baby cards. Like the canvas I shared yesterday, they were featured on the baby section of the booth with yummy pastel style colors. The post is previously blogged Canvas Corp's own blog, here (link).

Have your thoughts shifted to spring yet? To me spring means the waking nature, more sunlight and brighter colors! It also means birthday time in our family and I guess in many others also. So to celebrate all those having their very first birthday this spring I created a set of baby cards! There’s a pink one for a little girl and pale blue for a baby boy and also a sunny yellow that could be given to both.

All the cards have similar background of white cardstock and pale yellow striped cardstock. On top I layered different elements like an envelope, pieces of patterned paper and tags. All the cards also have the rosette embellishments in common. I made those using a die, but you can achieve similar just by folding a piece of cardstock accordion way and adhering the ends together.

The cards also have touches of pencil in them and a stamped detail or two. To finish the look I also flicked some Tattered Angels sprays to them to get matching touches of color across the whole creation.

Wishing you a beautiful start to the spring! Thank you for your visit today!

PS. Tattered Angels is introducing weekly palettes and the palette we're using now is the one for spring and babies with green. yellow, pink, blue and light grey. See the Facebook page for more info and inspiration!
