Blue bouquet - a card

Heippa heippa! Another day and another card! This one actually says "Happy Mother's Day" in Finnish and I made it for my mother-in-law in May. But just by changing the sentiment, it would make a nice birthday or a greeting card!

I used a Stampers Anonymous stamp set with some masking to make the bouquet. I used blue ink to stamp the florals and then watercolors to color them.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have a great day!

Sisu, licorice and tar - a birthday card

Ship, ahoy! Finishing the card week is this one with a story behind it and also with a process video!

Back in July we visited Kotka and it's maritime museum Vellamo. I was anxious to see the exhibition about Pompeii they had in there and it felt like a nice little summer trip anyway. We started the day with a drive to Kotka, a stroll around the town, then headed for a brunch and after the exhibition headed back home. We were planning on taking another stroll after the exhibition, but the weather thought differently and a summer storm rose from the sea. It was quite nice to see the frothy waves and pouring rain from the big windows of Vellamo, not so nice to walk in that weather.

We also checked the museum shop and in there was this package of licorice that caught my eye. A vintage photo in the packaging and the licorice was manufactured by my favorite brand. So that packaging came with us home. After the goodies inside were eaten, I wanted to use the vintage photo in the packaging for something. I was first thinking about an art journal page but when I started to gather the supplies, it then turned into a card.

If you want to see how I made the card, please see the process video underneath!

I named the post "sisu, licorice and tar" because of two Finnish sayings - sisu, sauna ja Sibelius and sauna, hard liquor and tar. Yes, us Finns really like sauna. Licorice of course comes from the product that was in the packaging but also it and tar refer to the color scheme of the card. Sisu I combined with the boat and the men onboard. The name of the vessel is Tarmo, vigor or drive. You can read more about this icebreaker here if you want to (link).

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a splendid Friday and weekend!

Happy day - a card

Moikka moi, it's day two of the "card week". I didn't planned to be such, but realized that it is when I started to make the posts for the week. Yesterday I shared the live project from last week with the recording and today it's a quick blue card I did as a birthday card.

As you may have noticed from the blog, I do cards constantly so I always have a couple in the drawer, when needed. But sometimes, even though I would have cards in my stash, I still feel that a special one is needed. That was the case with this blue one as all the stash cards where pinks or reds or some other color and the person receiving this, well, her favorite color is blue.

I used the same ink two ways to make the background - first added a watercolor like splodge there with a wet brush, picking the color from the pad and then after drying a stenciled layer using an inking tool. The floral composition is made using die cuts of Fabrika Decoru, but I trimmed those a little bit and cut the white rim out. There's one pink flower in the mix, but I mainly tried to pick blue ones from the set.

How about you, do you use stash cards to some and specially made to others or make each card specially for the occasion?

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Wishing you a sunny week!

Pastel flowers - a wedding card

Hi there and happy Wednesday! Today I'm sharing a delicate pastel card I made for a co-worker to congratulate her on her wedding day.

I had seen the invitations she had made with self painted watercolor flowers and these A.B.Studio blooms echoed that. I cut a bunch of flowers and leaves loose and used those to decorate the card. The background only has a golden rectangle design drawn to it, a tiny touch of stamping and some watercolor splashes, I felt it didn't more this time.

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a wonderful day!

Always be yourself - a tag

Moikka moi and happy new week! Today I'm sharing one more tag from my new online workshop about double sided adhesive sheets and their uses. The workshop is in Finnish, my mother tongue, but if you're interested in attending, please let me know and I'll ask how to go about it!

The workshop consists of seven videos where I make ten different tags using double sided adhesive sheets in various ways. There's also an eight video, where I make an art journal spread combining the different techniques I have shown in the previous technique videos. The main point about the workshop is to spark inspiration and imagination and encourage you to try different things with the humble but oh so versatile double sided adhesive!

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a great week!

Moikka moi!

Christmas story in July - Paper Garden

Ho ho ho and Happy Holidays! ...well, just kidding! But I did a Christmas card for my monthly Paper Garden project. I knew that some Finnish crafters start early, but before this post I've seen quite a bunch of Holiday cards already from all over the world, so maybe I wasn't that early after all!

Like I say in the video below, I felt inspired by some Christmas themed items I had from Paper Garden and made two cards with them. I use the same process to both, just using slightly different embellishments to them. If you wish to see how I made the cards, please see the video below.

I still haven't figured out what our family Christmas cards are going to be this year! I have the card bases ready, but I can't make up my mind if we should use stamping, die cutting or something completely different! But luckily, there's still a lot of time to figure that out!

Have you started making the Holiday cards already or do you have made plans? Or maybe deadline is the best inspiration?

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a lovely weekend!

A bird worth two in the bush - tag

Hi there and happy Tuesday! It's again a new week! Today I have a bi-lingual post as this tag is a part of my first online workshop in a Finnish course portal Kädentaitokurssit. The workshop is about double sided adhesive sheet and it's possibilities. The course is done in Finnish, but if you really would like to participate anyway and just watch the tutorial videos, please let me know and I'll investigate if that's possible.

Moikka moi! Tämä tagi on yksi kymmenestä ensimmäisellä suomenkielisellä nettikurssillani (linkki). Kurssin aiheena on monipuolinen kaksipuolinen tarrakalvo ja kurssin seitsemässä tekniikkavideossa käydään läpi erilaisia mahdollisuuksia sen käyttöön. Kurssin tarkoituksena on herätellä inspiraatiota kokeilla tätä tuotetta yhteen jos toiseenkin käyttötarkoitukseen. Kurssilla on lisäksi kahdeksas bonusvideo, jossa käytän aiemmissa tekniikkavideoissa kerrottuja tekniikoita yhteen arttiaukeamaan.

Trust your heart - FB live recording

Moikka moi! On Saturday I kept a FB live and created this easy but fun mixed media card. If you were unable to attend the live as it was happening, not to worry, I have the recording now on my YouTube and also embedded below! I was using watercolor pencils a couple of ways while making the piece.

As you can see from the recording, I had made the base for the card ready. Or rather, I had cut the pieces to size and secured them with a machine stitch. I thought that a bit extra would give the card a nice little frame. I then used grey inks to add some inky touches to the background and blooms and then added a bit of dimension to the background before turning my attention to the embellishments.

Like I say in the recording, I thought it would be fun to use the stamp two times in a row in a FB live. First in this art journal spread (link) and now in this card. Maybe I should even take that idea further and make two projects using same supplies in a row... Need to think about that perhaps! But the idea in this case was to show the versatility of a stamp. As you can use a multitude colors and mediums to stamp with, you can create almost an infinite number of variations and moods with a stamp. It could be on the background or as in both of these cases, the focal point. I really like using stamps in my projects!

If you want to know the stamp set or other supplies I used in this make, you can see the announcement post with the listed supplies here (link)

Thank you for stopping by today! Wishing you a fine Wednesday!
