Embrace the journey - Craftaamo 2022

Hi there and sweet new week! It's almost November now and you can feel it in the mornings when heading to work! First snow has fallen to some places in Finland and it's below zero degrees Celsius during the nights here in Helsinki, too. 

This art journal page is done when the weather was warmer, though. It was a surprise mini class during Craftaamo, a Finnish crop this autumn. The class was by Emilia Tapiola from Paper Garden. She had provided us with some lovely printables and an old book page. This was something I came up with those embellishments and items. 

You might notice that I used pink acrylic paint in the background. Can you believe that I didn't have white gesso on my work table then?! All the jars were on my class room and I forgot to take one jar down. So, instead I went with what I had and used pink paint!

Name tag for Craftaamo

Hi there! A bit gloomy looking name tag here today! This is something I created for Craftaamo. The base is a coaster, then some texture using Modeling paste and on top a composition of embellishments made using Finnabair moulds and my name. Coasters make great bases for small collages or assemblages! 

But I didn't want to just tell you how I made the tag but also write a little bit about the event, too. It was the first crop that I'd attended since the pandemic and also the first in-person workshops I kept since 2019 or something. I was nervous but the feedback was good and instructing in-person again felt amazing! It was also really great to craft alongside others in the crop! 

I hope these kinds of events keep on happening and hopefully I get to teach in-person, too!

Kässäfestarit - an event

Moikka moi! This post is mainly in Finnish as it's about an event in the end of this month here in Finland. I'm demoing there and making art journal pages. This is an example page I made, but I'm thinking of going with the flow and maybe even following requests of the event goers. 

Heippa! Otetaas taas postausta ihan suomeksi, sillä minulla on ilo kertoa, että olen demoilemassa kuun lopussa Kässäfestareilla Merikaapelihallissa. Festarit ovat avoinna perjantaina 27. ja lauantaina 28.5. klo 11-18. Arttisivuja tai aukeamia olisi tarkoitus tuolloin tehdä ja demoilla. 

Tein tällaisen uuden arttiaukeaman malliksi, mitä voisin tehdä. Mutta pääasiassa ajatus olisi tehdä vähän fiiliksen mukaan ja kuunnella toiveitakin! Jos nyt jo ennen festareita tiedät, että olet tulossa ja haluaisit jotain tiettyä mediumia minun käyttävän ja näyttävän niin otahan yhteyttä! Katsotaan, mitä pystyn järjestämään! 

Otan festareille mukaan myös ison kasan ATC-kortteja, joita vaihtelen mielelläni tai jollaisen voi käydä paikaltani nappaamassa uuteen kotiin! Ja mikäli pöytätila riittää, mukaan tulee myös jotakin kolmiulotteista projektia näytille.

Flowery tags - Prima Marketing / CreativeWorld demo

Moikka! Yesterday I shared a bigger piece I did for my demo. I'm not actually working on such a big scale in Frankfurt, though, but instead my goal is to make tags. Here's a couple of examples! 

The base for both tags is a chipboard tag. They both are painted using gesso - white for white and black for black. On top there's some stenciling, the transfer and then a cluster of embellishments some of which are made using reDesign moulds! So, you don't always have to go big with these product, they are also perfect for cards, canvases or layouts! 

As you can see, the transfers work beautifully both on white and black surface. The mood is totally different, though. Which one is your favorite, the white or the black?

Blooming clipboard - Prima Marketing / CreativeWorld demo

Hi there! In a few days I'll head to CreativeWord in Frankfurt! I'm so excited to meet friends, mingle and demo in there! I'm demoing from Saturday to Monday at Prima Marketing and Notions booths. So, if you are attending, please come and say hi! Prima's booth is on hall 4.2, place C66 and Notions is located one floor down, on hall 4.1, place K57.

What I'm demoing then, you ask. I'm working with reDesign products and mixing them with some Finnabair items. I made this clipboard as a sample. Even though reDesign is made to fit home decor, you don't always have to use it to dress up a bureau or a wall, the reDesign transfers work beautifully on a smaller scale, too. I decorated this clip board using an abundance of flowers from the “Floral collection” transfer. I transferred some of the flowers to the board itself, but added some on top of black cardstock, too and layered them using foam dots. To make the piece even more mixed media, I used Stick and Style stencil to make two layers to the background, one with wax and other with glitter.

Craftaamo challenge #4

Moikka! Today is again a post with two languages as the cards shown here are created for a challenge for a craft event happening here in Finland. I'm teaching two workshops there and they both are fully booked! Wow. 

Craftaamo tulee, oletko valmis? Craftaamon blogissa on nyt julkaistu neljäs haaste ennen tapahtumaa! Siihen pääset tutustumaan täältä (linkki). Teemana siis ylläolevan kuvankin mukaan ystävyys. 

Heinäkuussa eräässä toisessa tiimissä, jossa olen, oli haasteena "mail art". Se innosti minut laittamaan kortteja matkaan tavallista enemmän ja jatkoin teemaa tähän haasteeseen. Kaksi kaveria sai kortin kumpainenkin! Liian harvoin tulee laitettua jotain näin fyysistä matkaan, useimmiten vaan WhatsAppia tai Messengeriä käyttäen jotain. Kortti kuitenkin on kouriintuntuvampi ja varmasti ilostuttaa tänä sähköisen viestinnän aikakautena!

Molemmat kortit on tehty Gummiapanin leimoilla - toiseen raidallinen kissa ja toiseen erikoisempi nalle. Molemmat kuvat on väritetty vesiväreillä, joita roiskin tuonne taustaankin. Molemmissa korteissa on myös akryylimaalia, kuviopapereita, leimattua ja tarrattua tekstiä, tarroja... Kunnon sekamelskat kaikkea kivaa siis!

Craftaamo challenge #1

Bilingual post coming up! First a few words in English and then some more in Finnish! 

This project is something I cooked up for the first challenge connected to the Craftaamo event (link) happening this autumn in Finland. I'm keeping two workshops there, which I'm super happy about.  The other workshop is sold out, but there's a couple of spots left in the other. You can see the workshops here (link).

The topic of the first challenge is "Creativity" and the idea photo is really colorful one. First I thought to make something heavy in mixed media, but a 9 hour bus ride changed my thoughts. Because it got me thinking what is creativity really. I had just a journal, some teeny tiny markers, scissors and vintage scissors with me in the buss and still I was able to come up with something. It's not about what you have but more how you can use them!

Ja sitten suomeksi! Tämä työ on siis tehty Craftaamon ensimmäiseen haasteeseen, jossa aiheena on luovuus. Craftaamo puolestaan on mainio tapahtuma, jossa allekirjoittaneellakin on pari kurssia. Toinen kursseista on jo loppuunmyyty, mutta toiselle on vielä muutama paikka. Ajattelin ensin tehdä haastetta varten jotain akryylimaaleilla, gellilevyllä ja ties millä aineilla, mutta eräs bussireissu muutti suunnitelmat. Istuimme kaverin kanssa yli 9 tuntia bussissa keikkareissulla ja minulla oli mukana pikkuinen art journal vihkonen ja vintage valokuvatarroja. Ostin myös euron sakset ja tussit ennen bussiin hyppäämistä. Ei siis aina tarvitse montaa erilaista ainesta vaan juurikin luovuutta miten tuotteita yhdistellä ja saada aikaan jotain itseään ilostuttavaa! 

Tässä sivussa on siis tusseilla väritetty ruudut, johon sitten leikkelin noita vintage valokuvatarroja.  Väri-inspiraatio tuli tuosta haastekuvasta, jossa hehkuvat siinäkin kaikki sateenkaaren värit. Sivu syntyi lähes kokonaan reissussa, mutta kotosalla sitten vielä lisäilin sanatarrat ruutuihin, koska niitä ei ollut mukana enkä kirjaston kirjaa alkanut leikkomaan. Varsin vähillä tarpeilla syntyi siis tämä hauska sivu.
