Rusty moth - a canvas

Hello lovelies! Today I'm sharing a project I did quite a while ago. Like the transfer projects, it was going to be an online workshop, but like the other one, it didn't materialize. The topic would have been mixed media mediums and self-made rust paste.

The assemblage is done on top of a set of Fabrika Decoru HDF art board. The composition includes cast embellishments as well as buttons, flowers and corrugated cardboard. Everything is adhered together using gel medium. I used white gesso and various PaperArtsy paints to color the piece.

Caramel cake - a transfer project

Oh it feels like ages since I last shared a transfer project! Well, the latest one was over a month ago (link). 

Like the previous ones I've shared, this one was made as a little technique sample for an online workshop that never saw the light of day. I may have mentioned it before, but the idea was to showcase different transfer techniques or mediums. The sample ones I used just one medium for each and then I created an art journal spread (link), too, where I then used several techniques in the same make.

In this particular project I used an acrylic paint to do the transfer. The image is a laser printed Kate Crafts printable and the little label says something equivalent to soothing "there, there" in Finnish.

The merry year is born - PaperArtsy

Hello there! The weather forecast promises a flurry during this week even in the south here in Finland, so by the end of the week the scenery might resemble the one in this little project I made for PaperArtsy. You can see the blog post here (link) at PaperArtsy's blog.

This was made as a "With 3 Things" post. This feature on the PaperArtsy Blog is where 3 bloggers are sent 3 items in the post. We bloggers have no clue what PaperArtsy headquaters is going to send us, there might be a slight variation but generally 2 of the 3 things will be identical. This time I had an inkling which designer's stamp set would be sent as it's Alison Bomber highlight! Along with a Alison Bomber stamp set "Hawthorn Edition" I was sent two colors of Infusions and a piece of Grey Board.

I wanted to keep the materials list somewhat short on this project, so I tried to limit myself with them. I used the Grey Board as my base and used the stamps to pattern the background and make the big branch as well as add the little text strips. As colorants went, I mainly tried to use the Infusions I was sent only adding white gesso and black stamping ink to the mix. Well, to be honest I did add a green ink as well, tweaking the Infusions that way. Dreamy cake - a transfer project

Hello again! Looking familiar perhaps? Well, you guessed it. It's another transfer project! You can see the previous ones here (link) and here (link) and then there's this art journal spread (link), too.

Yesterday I shared the art journal spread and mentioned then, that for that project I used several different image transfer techniques. With these other projects, I was demoing just one technique each. This particular one is my favorite one as it never fails! I used a mat gel medium on top of a MDF piece. The smooth, sleek surface makes the transferring easy and the medium works like a charm. So, if you are new to image transfers, this would be the one I recommend trying first!

Fall blooms - a mini canvas

Hello! Today I have a mini canvas to share. It has these autumn tones, but it's actually done in the beginning of the year. The wooden panel was actually done for an online workshop, which then didn't go through. 

The background pattern of the piece is an image transfer. I used a Kate Crafts printable and transferred the beautiful fall bouquet to the background using Pentart Transfer Solution. I'm so thrilled how crisp and colorful the result was! On top of the transfer I then added some stamping and made a focal cluster using metal embellishments, molded items and paper flowers.

Potions Master - an assemblage

Heippa hei and welcome to the first Friday post of the month! You of course know what that means? A new process video! You can see the whole process here (link) on my YouTube channel.

As you can see from the photos, this time I made an assemblage. The initial inspiration was apothecary or a pharmacist, but I ended up calling the piece "Potions master" instead. I have had this chipboard door in my stash for a while and I wanted to put that into use. The door itself seemed too small to be a background, so I added it on top of this lace-like bigger chipboard background. I also rummaged through my stash of molded elements and pulled several shapes out of the drawer - some bottles, some bones and a skull and several light bulbs. I had planned to use a photo negative as a horizontal element, but while crafting the piece it felt needing something more. So, it was a quick run outside to gather some small branches to make the horizontal line more prominent. I then used that line to mount my elements, like they'd be on a shelf. Danse Macabre - an altered record

Hello! It's again Friday and time for a new process video! As with the previous Friday videos, you can watch the process video here (link) on my YouTube channel.

As you can see from the photos, this time I'm making an altered record. I was going to call it LP record, but my husband educated me that it's not a "long play" but instead a 7" vinyl. Like I tell in the video, it's something he brought home as a gift as it has Danse Macabre on it. We've been watching and re-watching Jonathan Creek episodes lately. It's a British mystery drama series, with a magicians assistant as a crime solver. A lot of locked room mysteries! 

Because of the record, I still call the piece Danse Macabre, even though, to be honest, if I would depict "Dance of Death", it would be a bit different. This altered record has some elements that I would include, but others are missing from the "memento mori" representation - like a skull to depict the personification of death. Instead I went with my favorite color palette and continued with the theme I started in the last video - using up my stash and not just saving and hoarding stuff! In this case, it was those beautiful flowers I haven't had the heart to use before.
