Beachy board - GDT Artists Live

Hello there! How are you on this fine Friday? Were you able to attend the live show at Artists Live this Monday? If not, no worries, read on! And if yes, well, read on anyway! 

I was guesting at Artists Live this Monday and created a wooden board with some beachy touches as my project. I started by creating a sand paste of my own and then added "sea foam" on top, continued with net like elements and finished with blooms and chipboard elements. Well, I did some splashes, too, and painted Melange Art Pebbles with pearly paint.

Meet me by the beach - GDT Artists Live

Hi there! How are you doing today? I'm excited about next Monday as I'm then guesting at Artists Live again! Are you familiar with Artists Live already? It's a free Ustream show, happening each Monday on Artists Live Ustream channel (link). There's a design team and then guests like me. Projects range from layouts, cards and tags to bigger mixed media projects. You can see the past shows here (link) in Artists Live YouTube channel. You can find my past shows there, too, like PanPastel ATCs (link) or monochromatic layout (link). 

But next Monday I'm not doing ATCs nor a layout but this style mixed media project. I'm using a piece of weathered wood as my background and building a beachy project on top. I'm doing my own sand paste and using a trick to make cool paint splashes.

Black and white - GDT Artists Live

Hello there and great Tuesday! About a week ago I was guesting at Artists Live and created some ATCs using Opal Magic paints. You can see the announcement post with material links here (link). 

As Opal Magic paints, like all the other Opal Magic products as well, work differently on white (light) and black (dark) surfaces, I used white and black gesso in the cards and painted them with same paints to show the magic effect.

During the show I created a whole bunch of cards! The method in these is the same, only the background color changes and effects the whole mood of the card. The light background and the opal shine give the cards a romantic, sweet look where as the dark background really makes the colors shine and the effect with the golden wax makes me think about Persia and orient nights. 

If you were unable to attend the show when it aired live, underneath is a recording from the Artists Live YouTube channel. As there were quite a few Finns watching (thank you!) I speak some Finnish during the show as well - you can hear how my mother tongue sounds like!

B and W - magical ATCs - GDT Artists Live

Hello there and happy Saturday! Here's a little something I'll be re-creating live next Monday as I'm guesting in Artists Live! Hope you can join me then! 

Are you familiar with Artists Live? It's a fantastic live show via Ustream (link) every Monday at the same time, 9 pm Finnish time - 2 pm EST, 8 pm CET. The time and place are the same, but what changes is the one who keeps the tutorial, the show. There's a regular team but also guests. The best way to keep on track who's on and what's the subject is to like Artists Live on Facebook (link) and follow the events there.

What I'm doing next Monday is some ATCs with Opal Magic paints and showing why their name "magic" is so appropriate. I'm applying the colors on white and black surface and you can see how the background color effects these paints. As we have an hour to us, I'm thinking of showing the Opal Magic waxes as well. Underneath you find the materials I'm at least using if you want to make the project together with me.

Bound butterflies ATCs - GDT Our Mixed Media Moods

Hi there! How are you today? I have something special to share with you today - it's a double guest piece! As I'm not a part of the regular Artists Live team, I was honored and happy to be invited to take part in a guest appearance in the Our Mixed Media Moods. What is Our Mixed Media Moods? It's a collaboration between DeeDee Catron and Jenn Engle and the goal is to inspire and provide exciting tutorials and videos. There's a challenge, too, so you can join in the fun! The linky tool is here (link) at DeeDee's blog.

Above is the inspiration board, the challenge. I immediately was drawn to the upper middle photo which reminded me about alcohol inks and a technique I've been using every now and then. That settled the background part but then I needed to think what to make and what other details to include to the piece. The right bottom corner photo gave me an idea of ATCs and the twine and the butterflies took care of the details. 

Underneath is my contribution video to the challenge. You can see the links to all other videos in the description part of the video. 

You can see the process to make the marble, splotchy looking background in the video. I've used the same technique with mists, too. What took me by surprise was how the white Ecoline worked. Underneath is two detail shots of the background without the top layers.

My favorite 12 of 2016: altered items and others

Happy New Year 2017! Now that the fresh new year is starting, I'm looking back to last year for a moment and dedicating the first posts of this year to different favorites of 2016.

I'm doing four posts totally, this being the last one in the series. I've already shared my 12 favorite card-like projects of 2016 (link), my 12 favorite layouts of 2016 (link) and  my 12 favorite canvases and journal connected projects of 2016 (link). This post is about my favorite altered items and special projects, like pieces of jewelry. 

Listing my personal favorites is something I've done a couple of years now. Here you can see my favorite altered pieces of 2015 (link). It's fun to see how the amount of those projects continue to grow as I've been forced to divide these crafts to two posts in two years now!
