Hi there! It's again start of a new week and start of another five posts on my blog! Today I'm sharing my PaperArtsy "Interactive" project with you. You can see the original post with a step by step styled approach here (link).
I somehow don't like when the legs of the jumping jack swerve around, so instead of making an actual, classical one might say, jumping jack, I opted for an art doll version. When drawing the first sketches, I came to think about the mosaics in the Basilica of San Vitale, Ravenna and especially empress Theodora (link). When I was stuck in one stage of the project, this thought proved to be handy. I also named the finished piece after her.
I used Seth Apter's new stamps to decorate the doll and make the robes. I chose a purple with a regal feeling for the color and used PaperArtsy's Fresco Finish acrylics to stamp the patterns to the robes. I used the same stamps also when adding jewelry pieces to my lady. Those are stamped on top of heat resistant transparency with embossing ink and then coated with golden embossing powder and heated. After cutting the pieces look a little bit like golden embellishments as they kind of float in the air.

Moikka! I bet you don't remember a tag I did about 18 months ago with the same vintage photo and denim? I don't blame you, there's been so many projects here after that! In case you want to see to which tag I'm referring to, here's a link to that post (link). But that tag has been haunting my mind since then as I really liked it! I loved the combination of the vintage tones and denim. So, I decided to have another go!
While this page had its inspiration in the tag, the project turned totally different. As where the tag had a warm toned background with hints of blue, in this one I wen't with the blue tones. I layered the different blue acrylics on top of each other, letting the layers underneath to peek through by using flicks of water. As the end result seemed a bit too dark, I then covered the whole page with white gesso and used the same droplet trick not to transform the piece totally white. I really like the worn effect this created!
To finish the page I made just a little composition to show as much the background I could. I added some stamping to highlight the composition area and then used some thread, corrugated cardboard and snap fasteners to make a composition with the vintage photo.

Hi there and colorful Thursday! Today I'm sharing a journal page with you I did one night. I was feeling colorful then.
The background of the piece is done collaging. I created a piece of cardstock using a gel printing plate and then added layers on top of it. The one with the numbers, for example is done on top of tissue paper though a Seth Apter stencil. I also added some acrylics using a sillicone brush so that the streaks have texture. The focal point is a stamped image using Carabelle Studio stamp.

Hi there and wonderful Wednesday to all of you! Today is the last day of June, which means a farewell to a wonderful team of crafty professionals - the Seth Apter Creative Team.
It has been a wonderful time with much learning. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and time as a member of the team. I have loved learning about new products, playing with them and doing the trio posts using them. In fact I've liked doing the posts so much that I'm continuing doing them, at least for a while. I've already recorded the July trio and can't wait to show it to you.
Seth asked us to make a post with our favorite piece from the term. First, it was from October 2020 to March 2021 but we got three months extra as the term continued to June 2021. I've loved doing all the projects so it's hard to choose just one. Instead, I thought to share my favorite projects of my team mates here. So, let's get started. I'm using the above photo as my guide going from top left to bottom right in rows.
Robyn McClendon - I chose a video by Robyn to be linked here. There's gel printing, collaging, stamping, color theory, composition... Loads of info and ideas! Robyn creates a pack of inspiration cards in the video using one of the Seth stamp sets. Here's the link to the video (link). I just love the cubist feel of the cards, the solid color areas and the words on top of old Japanese paper. Just gorgeous and so inspiring! You can see the cards ready in the video as well, but here's a link to Instagram photo showing some of those cards, too (link).
Rachel Bellamy - I chose also a video by Rachael to be linked here. In it she's showing gel printing, layering stencil patterns and creating bold tribal marks. You can see the video here (link). To me personally the biggest joy of watching her create comes from those bold marks. I love how smoothly and without any hesitation Rachel draws the bold black marks on top of the layered print. And the final details of adding the white with a smaller brush - like meditation! You can see the finished piece in the start of the video, but here's also a link to the Instagram post with that gorgeous piece of art (link).
Jackie Jimerson - Jackie's style of gel printing was an eye opener for me. Her relaxed air, letting the paints dry and working on multiple plates. I mean wow. So inspiring, so intriguing, so soothing! I've chosen this video by Jackie, where she works with Seth's acrylic paints to make a gorgeous piece of art. You can see the video here (link). I also like how she comes back to the print to add a touch of Payne's Grey for contrast and structure. So fabulous.
Phoebe Tonosaki - From Phoebe I chose a recording of a Facebook live. You can see that here (link). In it she's creating a gorgeous journal page but giving loads and loads of information about Chinese and Japanese culture, too. She also shows how to carve a small stamp from an eraser. Again, a wealth of knowledge and inspiration!
Debi Adams - Debi is a master of many things and I love her mixed media art as well as the amazing floral arrangements she does. But I chose this last post of her awesome photography series to be linked here. Here's the link (link). If you haven't read the whole series, please do so now! I might sound parrot as I repeat this all over again - but a wealth of knowledge, ideas, inspiration and tricks! Like using the volume button? What!?
Heippa, it's third and final day of this month's series for Seth Apter Creative Team. Sadly, this is the last trio for Seth Apter Creative Team as our term is about to end. These past nine months have been a blast! You can find Seth Apter's site here (link) and more about the Creative team here (link). I've included a list of products to the end of the post with links to Seth's own store. While this is the last series for this team, I have enjoyed making these posts so much, that I'm thinking of continuing making some kind of triplets in the future, too. Let me see, what I can come up with!
In the course of the previous posts I have concentrated on different mediums and tools in Seth Apter's repertoire - stamps (link), Izink ICE acrylic glaze (link) and Izink Texture mediums (link). The links take you to the previous series. But what tool was still unexplored were stencils! So, for this last series I concentrated on those. I thought nine ideas to include stencils to a project. Naturally there's so many more, but these nine I could easily tie to a project. Or a series of projects, in a way, as I made a set of ATCs using stencils in a multitude of ways. I've broken the process into three separate videos, which I'll share in the course of the following days. In each, I show a couple of techniques and also make some progress in the ATC set.
In this third video, much of the process is getting the set done. But there's two new ideas to use stencils among it! The other is using stencils to embroidery and other to cut.
The elements I'm doing using embroidery in these cards are more or less such that I could have done them without a stencil. But while they are quite easy, the segment is there to illustrate another possibility to use a stencil in your project. You don't have to do mixed media in order to use stencils. If the stencils are food safe, you could use them to decorate cakes and pastries. If you work with clay, you could either paint the pattern or use the stencil to make a dimensional pattern to your pottery. Or if you like embroidery, you could use them as a guide for your stitched design. Like I have said in the previous two posts, the only limit is your imagination! Although I've studied costume design, embroidery hasn't ever been my thing ever. But just think what you could do with these elements with long stitches, filling the pattern with different colors! Or tracing the elements using back stitch and then filling each element with French knots, chain stitch or cross stitches.
The final idea I'm sharing with stencils is using them as cutting guides. Like I say in the video, if you are really confident, you could cut through the stencil. BUT there's always a risk in there. I wouldn't dare to put a blade near my stencils as I'm such a speedy Gonzales, I probably ended up ruining them. But sketching through them and then cutting is always an option! It also gives you more room to think about the design. For example, if I had cut straight through the stencil, I wouldn't have gotten such elements but quite the opposite. Sketching and then cutting also allowed me to make each of the elements unique. You could also use the flip from the first video as a way to sketch the design! Spray some ink through the stencil, flip it to the cardstock and then cut the colorful elements loose!
I think I've said it before but when working on a set or a series of projects, doing a "master sheet" is handy. Like I did two collage sheets in these ATCs. Both of the sheets have similar color schemes and similar layers, but when I cut them into smaller segments, each of the cards is unique. They go nicely together, but make up a definite series because of the colors, elements and layers. Also, working with a bigger sheet might be faster and more fun than fiddling with small, individual segments right from the start. But that's just my way of doing things!
This post is the last one I made for the Seth Apter Creative Team. Like I say in the first paragraph, I'm thinking of continuing of doing some kind of triplet each month even after the term is done.
