Give comfort - Creative JumpStart 2022

Moikka moi! Here's another piece inspired by Creative JumpStart 2022! This time I followed Mystele Kirkeeng's lesson. 

This lesson hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm not sure why, but I got so emotional while making this mug that I actually cried. Maybe it was the calm way Mystele was talking, maybe it was the idea of creating something just for me, or maybe it was the hectic times at work pouring out. Or maybe all together. But it felt so good to follow the lesson, to just paint and enjoy the process. 

I used some left over pieces from other projects in the background as well as one artist calendar page cut into strips. First I saw the mug emerging from the background but then, all of a sudden there was a cookie, too! I happened to have adhered a piece with the circular stamp to the bottom right corner of the page and that reminded me about a Finnish Domino cookie. So tea and biscuits it was!

Sound shows how little we are - Creative JumpStart 2022

Hello there and happy new week! Today I'm sharing yet another piece inspired by Creative JumpStart 2022. This time I was inspired by Jodi Ohl's lesson about intuitive painting. 

I enjoyed this process very much! It was liberating to "just" paint, without any pre-made plans or expectations. I enjoyed making layers and then hiding them again. Eventually something started emerging from the paint and I highlighted it. But I have to say that this time I should have trimmed the paper to the correct size before starting to paint as the piece lost something when I cut it to fir inside my journal! The composition and rhythm was better while the piece was a bit bigger. 

I'm not sure if you see what I see in the painting. I see two dark feathers, which I then decided to be the feathers of a "storm bird". Not the Australian bird species but a figurative creature. Thus the words - "sound shows how little we are", referring to storm and thunder. And yes, there's an S missing as it wasn't in the stickers.

Light around again - Creative JumpStart 2022

Heippa! During my summer holiday I got a chance to continue with the Creative JumpStart 2022 lessons again. Today I'm sharing a page inspired by Iris Fritschi-Cussens's lesson. 

To say she blew my mind might be an understatement! I loved her colorful and fun project and how you could adapt it to suit your favorite palette, but the biggest impact was her using a brayer the way she did. It was such an eye-opening thing. So simple, but so mind boggling - like so many best inventions are. 

I followed her lesson about the rainbow but then cut the piece in two and only used the other half in this journal page. I filled the page with some vintage book pages and some paint marker doodles. The stickers are from Tim Holtz's sticker book. The two birds are of different origins - the crow is actually a sticker by Iris Fritschi-Cussens, gifted to me by Marsha Valk, and the blue bird is a left over from this earlier project (link).

Soulful Living - CJS22

Moikka! I'm sharing another journal project inspired by Creative JumpStart 2022. This time the inspiration came from Andrea Chebeleu's lesson and her work. 

I took a bit of my own route with this one. While I loved Andrea Chebeleu's take on the subject, I didn't feel like I going so analytic with a piece. I do see the point of that and it's a marvelous exercise, I just wanted to get my fingers painty! So, I went to Andrea's Instagram (link), found a piece that I was drawn to and then used her lesson as a jumping off point!  

The journal spread is off balance, but I don't mind. A perfect page wasn't my goal! Well, that's hardly ever my goal when art journaling, to be honest. But I enjoyed the process tremendously!

Her House - CJS22

Hi there and happy Tuesday! Today I'm sharing yet another project inspired by Creative JumpStart 2022. This journal page is inspired by Gwen Lafleur's lesson. She made the most beautiful ATCs in her video, but as I've done all the other projects in art journal form, I wanted to stick to that. 

I'm not sure why I chose such a contrasting color palette as I often work with analogous schemes, but I enjoyed the challenge! The colors really pop! The focal point is a Lynne Perralla stamp and around the image I built a little frame or a house for the character.

Hi there! Yesterday I shared an art journal spread inspired by Marsha Valk's Creative JumpStart 2022 lesson and today I'm sharing a spread inspired by DeeDee Catron's lesson. 

I really enjoyed watching DeeDee work and how effortlessly she created her pages. It was a joy to watch such a smooth flow! What I also love about DeeDee's style is her use of limited color palette. It's really effective!

Sentimental - CJS22

Hi there and happy Monday! I'm continuing to share projects inspired by the Creative JumpStart 2022 lessons slowly but surely. This spread is done inspired by Marsha Valk's fabulous video, but the speedy Gonzales I am, I did it a bit haphazardly. 

Where as Marsha's piece is very detailed and precise, I painted with a broader brush, so to say. The person on the right page is none other than Ellen Thesleff. The spread was first just one page, but I felt that it needed some balancing to the opposite page and so I added some pieces of paper there as well and topped it with a butterfly.

Question art - CJS22

Heippa hei! It's Thursday and I'm sharing my third Creative JumpStart 2022 inspired art journal page. This time the inspiration came from the second video, which was by Rae Missigman. As part of the process, part of the video was so different from what I usually do, I really enjoyed doing this page. Also making the white marks to the background, stroke by stroke felt really meditative. I might do that another time, too, when I need to settle my mind or calm myself down!
