Mechanical Seahorse - Scrap FX

Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing my last project as the part of the regular Scrap FX team. It was published last month in the company blog already (link), so it's a bit sad for me. But I had so much fun doing this project so lets move those sad feelings aside and concentrate on the good and happy things! Right?

I absolutely adore seahorses! There's something magical about them, how they delicately float or swim in the sea. How they are so fantastic looking - a mix of a fish and a horse and how colorful they are. Having said that, this seahorse ain't that colorful, but sparkly and shiny! I wanted the seahorse to pop out of the background, so I chose to paint it black and only have some metallic shine to the body. The gears on top I painted with a golden sparkly paint.

The background of this project is the background of the Milestone Card Seven. On top I created some sea weed or waves like texture using the Art Deco stencil. Then I painted the background using pearly blue paints. I added some pearls and micro beads to the background and painted them with gold, like a stream on light shining through the water. To heighten the wavy feeling, I added one flourish to the side of the piece.

Delightful Sunday! I'm today keeping a couple of workshops in Espoo, what are you up to?

Here's another project for Scrap FX using the latest, mechanical collection. This project is a small canvas, which is actually something I just needed to do. This was something I saw immediately when I saw the "Fob Watch Butterfly" chippie. Well, naturally I didn't know all the details, but I saw it as the centerpiece in a canvas.

The mechanicals and steampunk feeling the new collection has, brings into my mind a rusty, weathered color palette. So I used that in this piece. The background is done using quite a few mediums, but I also used Rust Pastes in there. I also included some touches of teal there like the weathered copper and that gave me the idea for the color of the butterfly. The butterfly is first embossed with white embossing powder, then coated with a sparkling teal colored embossing glitter and finally treated partly with the same paints I used in the background.

The layers in the background include first of all a clock design made with the "Mechanical Time" stencil. On top of it there's the clock hands and the big round things, stacked on top of each other are from the "Accessory Cogs" set. They frame the butterfly nicely and mimic the center clock on it, too.

Happa Saturday! How are you today? Excited about CHA and seeing what's new? This project has something new, too. The chippies in the piece are most of the newest Scrap FX collection. I made a couple of projects for the post, which you can see here (link). The topic of this page is my silly husband, who's trying to do "Blue Steel" look like Derek Zoolander.

The idea in the layout came from the transparency. I really liked the edge design it had and thought to cut that apart from the rest of the designs and use that as a focal point in my page. I added some stamping underneath, to the background and then layered a whole lot of different chipboards on top of each other for the main composition. Apart from those, there's quite a little of embellishments in the page.

The main part of the composition is the "Wire Heart". Around it I added two line-like designs, the "Flower C Clock Hand" and "Mechanical Spike A", and also a floral design "Botanical Clockwork". I treated each of these with a golden, sparkling acrylic paint and while it still was wet, sprinkled some embossing powders on top. They stuck to the wet paint and I was then able to melt the powder on top.

My favorite 12 of 2016: altered items and others

Happy New Year 2017! Now that the fresh new year is starting, I'm looking back to last year for a moment and dedicating the first posts of this year to different favorites of 2016.

I'm doing four posts totally, this being the last one in the series. This post is about my favorite altered items and special projects, like pieces of jewelry.

It's fun to see how the amount of those projects continue to grow as I've been forced to divide these crafts to two posts in two years now!

Measuring the year - Scrap FX

I'm sharing today my second project from the monthly post for Scrap FX. As you can see, it's an altered measuring stick. The item itself is from my last workplace and it also symbolizes how time goes by, how time can be measured, how there's several notches in the measuring stick like events and important dates in the year.

I arranged the embellishments so that the end result is kind of a sword as well. Although I must be honest and noticed that later on - when creating I just arranged the items so that the whole project was looking good. The "heart" of the design is a Prima plaster heart. On top of it I arranged a frame from the "Book Plates, small" set and also year chippie from "2016 Year Pack".

Underneath the heart there's two "Flourish 19 Wing" making kind of wings to the stick. The actual wings in the project, located underneath the heart are cut from the "Soaring Bird". There's also a few scattered hearts from the "Lots of Love" set here and there and a key from the "Bunch of Keys" set.

It has been an amazing year with a lot happening in my life. I've changed job, I've traveled to keep workshops and I've made new friends, met new wonderful people and had a marvelous time all together.

I want to take the opportunity to thank you all also for this year. With the changes happening in my personal life, I'm stepping down from the Scrap FX regular team and this project is one of the two in my last monthly post. I'm gonna share a couple of projects next year, too, so we won't be strangers right away, I hope.

This layout is celebrating the year. The photo is my workshop sample from the UK courses and the journaling is about how wonderful the year has been but also at the same time full of changes. Really looking forward to 2017!

I wanted to give the layout an atmosphere of days passed so I used a neutral color scheme and left most of the chipboard shapes untreated. I also used tea as a colorant while making the background.

I used a couple of stamps and a couple of stencils in the background. I stamped some diamond shapes and some gears to the background using same brown ink. The gears are stamped with "Cogs" and the diamonds with "Harlequin" stamp. With the "House and Home" stamp I used black ink.

The brushes are drawn using the "Paint Brushes" stencil to the right side of the photo cluster and the small dots or circles are done using the "Random Dots" stencil which is one of my all time favorites! It's so versatile!

The embellishments in the page mimic the vintage or industrial feel. There's three different gears or machine parts in the page - the "Clockface gears/steampunk", the "Art Deco Design" and also a couple of gears from the "Cogs, micro" set. On top of one of the gears is the year 2016 - one of many from the "2016 Year Pack" set. The title is made using one of the words from the "#Happy" set. As the paper collection I was using had a pen nib pattern, I also added a chippie pen nib in my page. It's from the "Sentiment Pen Nibs" set.
