Hi there! How are you this Wednesday? Here's another "post from the drafts" project, but this one is more recent than the ATCs I shared yesterday. As it says in the photo, I created this page for Artful Academy with a video. This one was for "Journal Playground". You can read more about it here (link) at Artful Academy's page. 

My theme or goal was to create texture without bulk. I was a bit out of my "normal" as I love dimension in my projects, but on the other hand, I loved the challenge. It made me think about products that I don't use that often. As you can see, I solved the problem with crackle medium and lace, fabric and other pieces from the sewing basket. These, maybe a bit unusual items for journaling add immediately different textures to the piece. And crackle creates a great texture without adding much bulk! Create magic - Artful Academy

Peaceful Friday! This post should have been published yesterday evening, but it failed to do so, so I'm posting this now. I've shared two pieces of a triptych I created for Artful Academy yesterday and day before. This is the third and final piece. The triplet was for a workshop, of which I made this post about quite a while ago (link). 

The online workshop is about repeating pattern. Katy, the owner of Artful Academy, asked me to create a workshop based on an older project and while analyzing it, I came up with the conclusion that the effect it had was about the repeating pattern in the background. So, for the workshop I created a triptych using different items to recreate that effect. I also talk about how to keep a triptych cohesive so they have something similar yet something different. Where as the first one had a face in the middle of the canvas and the second near the edge, this third one is the most abstract one in that sense. But as there's gears, a domino piece and a light bulb, there's still much to look at! Which one of the three is your favorite - "Art is good", "Embrace possibilities" or "Create magic"?

Embrace possibilities - Artful Academy

Moikka! Yesterday I shared first piece of a triptych I created for Artful Academy. It was for a workshop, of which I made this post about quite a while ago (link). 

The online workshop is about repeating pattern. In yesterday's piece the composition in the middle had a character of sorts but this time the center is just more abstract. But there's a similar face than in the first one, this time it's peeking at the bottom of the frame. Which one did you look first - the center or the edge?

Swell Tuesday to you! Quite some time ago I made this post about a workshop I had at Artful Academy (link). During the next couple of days I'll blog the individual pieces for that workshop. Here's the first one.

This first piece I'm sharing is the most representational with the character on it. The other two are more abstract assemblages of sorts. I used my "go to" color palette of blues and greens in the projects but added some tea tones and gold in there as well.

ART - embrace magic - Artful Academy

Hi there and peaceful Friday! Today I'm sharing some pieces I made for an online workshop hosted by Artful Academy. The workshop is called "Repeating Pattern" and you can enroll here (link). In the workshop I create three pieces using the same steps by alternating the element that makes a repeating pattern to the background. I also talk about how to keep a triptych coherent even though each one is unique. The workshop has three videos and about 55 minutes of tuition. 

Well, I say I share the pieces but actually I'm showing the triplet now and will share each of the canvases in their own post. Like I said earlier, all of them have similar or same steps but some differences in the used products and materials!

Edgar Allan Poe - Artful Academy

Hi there! Today I'm sharing a project I did some time ago, but just got published in an Artful Academy workshop! This one is done for an image transfer class called "Image Transfer Techniques" (link). There's different transfer techniques in the workshop with video tutorials by four different people including me.

In my segment I show some different mediums to transfer the image and then create the project you can see here. There's two videos, first video about different quick ways to do an image transfer and then second video about the project itself. In it I used several transfer techniques, but also collaging, layering, embossing... Like a proper mixed media girl!

Inspired by Helene Schjerfbeck - Artful Academy

Moikka and lovely Friday! Yesterday I shared my first make for Artful Academy's workshop "Inspired by Artists" (link) and today I'm sharing another take. You can learn more about the workshop itself here (link).

While the first piece was more straight inspiration of Helene Schjerfbeck, for this other one I combined her style more with my own. There's more texture in the piece but it's still quite flat to resemble the paintings.

Inspired by Helene Schjerfbeck - Artful Academy

Moikka! Today I'm sharing something in the lines of "Throwback Thursday". This piece was created for Artful Academy some time ago and published in the "Inspired by Artists" online workshop (link). As the name states, the workshop is about being inspired by an artist. 

The workshop has segments inspired for example by Paul Klee, Carl Larsson, Henri Matisse and Gustav Klimt. I wanted to go with a Finnish painter and chose Helene Schjerfbeck (link) for two reasons. First of all, she's one of my favorites. Second, I wanted a female painter and the thing that tipped the scale in favor of Helene over Ellen Thesleff (link) was the fact that there was a big Helene Schjerfbeck exhibition at the time I was making the piece in the Finnish National Gallery Ateneum. It was the same exhibition that was shown in London some time before (link). Because while Schjerfbeck is very known here in Finland she's almost obscure everywhere else. 

During the workshop you'll learn a little bit about Helene herself and I show how I pick some style pointers from her and create an art journal page. I also create another one, where I combine her style more to mine. I shall share that one tomorrow.

Mystical Södergran - Artful Academy

Hi there and mystical Monday! This page was made for Artful Academy's Journaling Challenge 2020. Unfortunately you can't purchase the challenge any more, but September was my month with prompt and tutorial video. My theme or prompt was "Mystical". 

My first idea was starry night, ravens and inky blue. I almost followed this original idea, but ended up doing a little Södergran fairy instead of ravens! Edith Södergran is a Finnish poet and she's one of my favorite poets. The lines in the page are a translation of her poem "Stars" or "Sjärnorna" like it's in the original language. She wrote her poems in Swedish.
