Rays of cuteness - WOW and Whimsy hop

Hello there and welcome to the collaboration hop between WOW! Embossing Powder (link) and Whimsy Stamps (link)! This hop starts today and runs until 5th of April. If you arrived via Iris Wiechmann, you are on the right track! If not, no worries, there's a list of the hop stops a bit further down!

So, welcome again! My name is Riikka Kovasin and I'm a mixed media crafter from Finland. I make canvases, layouts and - as you can see - cards! I love to play with different mediums and usually go heavy with those, but this time I hold myself a little bit back with the layers of mediums. I used same layers in all of the cards, just changed the colors and patterns. There's even a step by step tutorial for these further down.

As the hop is with so many talented designers, it's split over two days. Today, on 30th March is the first day and tomorrow, 31st March is the second day. You can find the hop list on both days from the company blogs.

What would be a hop without some prizes! There's two prize packs which means there's going to be two winners. WOW! Embossing Powders will be giving away a prize pack containing 6 powders of the winner's choosing along with a WOW carry case to store your powders safely in. Whimsy Stamps is giving away a $25 gift certificate to their store. The winners will be chosen at random in the week of the of 8th of April from the comments left on the posts.

So, to join the giveaway in this hop you must leave a comment on the designer's blog posts. Each comment you leave is an entry for a chance at getting your hands on these prizes. This hop is open internationally.

Before the step by step, let's go through the hop order!
Riikka Kovasin (you are here!)
Whimsy Stamps

Happy hopping!

Step 1. So, if you want to create something similar, start with a background piece. Take the "Sun Rays" stencil from Whimsy Stamps, ink through it using WOW! embossing ink and then emboss using your choice of embossing powder from WOW!. I picked the powders I used matching them to the colors of the patterned papers I used from Whimsy Stamps.

Step 2. Next, make your focal points. Stamp characters from the "Valentine Puns" stamp set with WOW! embossing ink and use different WOW! powders to emboss them.

Step 3. Color the focal points using watercolor pencils and a water brush. Then cut them loose.

Step 4. Make layers for your cards using Whimsy Stamps patterned papers, the sun burst piece you did in the beginning and the focal point. Use a solid colored card as the base. To add more interest, cut the edge of the patterned paper using decorative scissors.

Step 5. Layer and adhere everything together. Adhere the bigger pieces as the background, add some watercolor on top. Make a cluster using other pieces of patterned paper from the "Starring Hearts" pad and add the focal point on top using foam dots. Adhere the cluster to the background using double sided tape.

Step 6. Finish the card with a sentiment from the "Valentines Puns" set. Stamp using WOW! embossing ink and emboss using White Puff Ultra High powder. Add a couple of decorative epoxy dots as the last touch.

Thank you for stopping by today! Which one of the four cards is your favorite - the miso soup, the tea bags, the taco or the typewriter? Remember, that your next stop is Toni Maddox!
