Gesso and mists - two of my favourite medium! Anna shows us today a great technique to use gesso and mists in a different way and how to create perfect splashes. She also shares an idea how to include some mixed media as an embellishment to the finished layout.

My name is Anna Björklund and I live in Sweden together with Johan and our three kids. I found my way into the world of scrapbooking in 2003 and I don’t ever want to leave again. I love to scrapbook, I love to paint and I love to combine scrapbooking and painting. I am using my sewing machine on most things I create and I am in love with Glimmer Glam. I love to create a mess, but my style is still quite simple most of the time.

I am very happy and proud to be designing for Cocoa Daisy, Tattered Angels and Scrap365

Please don’t hesitate to contact me, if you have any questions at all. My blog: http://mymessyspot.blogspot.se.

"Hi all! I am so happy to be here today, to share a fun misting technique and to give you an idea on how to use a misted paper for a layout, other than using it as your background.

Supplies:
Gesso, Glimmer Mist, Chalkboard Glimmer Mist, Glimmer Glam, Pipette, a little water and something to use as a palette, cardstock

I started out by slightly diluting the gesso with water. I only added as much water as I needed to be able to drag the gesso up in the pipette. I wanted to add as little water as possible, so I added little by little until I got the result I wanted. I then splattered some gesso over the cardstock, holding the pipette quite high up, above the paper. (Be sure to protect the area around you, and your clothes!)

I dried the gesso using my heat tool and then misted over my entire cardstock, using a couple of different colours of Glimmer Mist (Aquamarine and Electric Blue) and Chalkboard Glimmer Mist (Seven Seas).

I then added more gesso splatters!

When the gesso was dry I added more mist and then I also splattered some Glimmer Glam (Caspian Sea) over my cardstock.

I added more layers…

…and more layers… For a while I was thinking that I’d leave the last layer of gesso splatters white, because I loved the contrast the white added, but in the end, I changed my mind (as I often do while creating) and added some more mist.

When the cardstock was dry, I flipped the page over and traced the design of an ampersand. I cut it out, and used it on a layout.

I added machine stitching and some ink to the edges and then I wrote my journaling around the ampersand. The title says “you&you&you”. The small ampersands and the chipboard heart are all painted with Glimmer Glam Golden Goddess.

Thank you so much for joining me today and thank you so very much Riikka, for inviting me!"

Wonderful Anna - and it reminds me that I should take the sewing machine from the attic, it's been too long...

Love this, got the link after Julie Balzer mentioned my work in one of her posts. I love that you are highlighting a different artist/technique for each day of Advent. It's a wonderful way to be mindful about this season. Great, great idea. I'm also doing an Advent practice--a collage-a-day or Creatmas in anticipation.
