Goofy Family - Scrap365

Talking about an oldie! Can you see that this layout is almost a year old? I notice several things that tell it to me that this is not my recent work. This layout was published in Scrap365 July 2014 issue in an article "Plastic? Fantastic!". The article was about epoxies and all sorts of plastic embellishments and how to add them to the pages. 

The topic of the page is our family and how we all are little comedians when the right time comes. I used plastic things in several ways - for example created the background by using a piece of plastic bag. 

Talking about publications - underneath is a detail of a layout published in the Histoires de Pages, in issue 62. There's an article where Mixed Media Place DT contributed and I'm more than thrilled that my page was shown there!

Acorn hats - Scrap365

Hi there! I blogged a layout called "Light The Way" a few days ago (link) and one of the embellishments is the page was an acorn hat. Those were made for Scrap365 but never made to publish as the magazine was dropped. I've been hoarding these ever since trying to find a good spot for them. 

The hats are done easily using Gelatos and Soft Gloss Gel. I first gently colored the hat with Gelatos crayon and then spread the color with the Soft Gloss Gel all across the inside of the hat. After the paint had dried I then doodled on the inside with a white Sharpie.

Hoist the sails - Craft Stamper

Good evening! Here's an oldie that was published in the October issue of Craft Stamper under the article "Spilt Paint". The article was about an easy but time consuming background thing I sometimes love to use. The article was originally made for Scrap365 and was indeed published in the Scrap365 supplement in the Craft Stamper.

The page itself on the other hand is about the big sailboats visiting Helsinki during the Tall Ships Race 2013. We, the whole family, went to see the ships and girls were astounded by the vessels. I remember how I was amazed while in my teens, I think, when the ships visited my home town, Turku. There's something graceful, even magical about sailboats, don't you think?

Big One - Scrap365 and a giveaway

Merry Christmas! Was there such a sight in your household that's captured in the photo on the layout? A gift bigger than the receiver? Although this page was published in the July 2014 issue of Scrap365 in the article titled "Plastic? Fantastic!" I though the theme in the layout fitted this time of the year nicely. And talking about presents, keep scrolling downwards...

The article was about epoxies and all sorts of plastic embellishments and how to add them to the pages. In this one I used the different stickers to heighten the bubbling, joyous feeling! The topic is the big or should I say huge present my daughter caught as a birthday present. It was so sweet to see her proudly carrying the big present and then opening it. And what was inside? A baby doll and clothes for it as well as other nursing props.

In Finland the Santa brings the presents already on the 24th but as I know that in many countries it's the tradition to have them on the 25th I have a present for you! Or rather one of you. There's two stencils, diecut cards, wooden embellies and a little pouch of all things nice (aka spare items from different sets)! These are all by Happy Scatter - a brand by Jennifer Grace! 

Remember my guest post to Jennifer's event? She then send me some of her Happy Scatter items to play with but they didn't show up and we thought they'd be lost for good. She then send me another set of supplies to play with for the guest post and about a week after they had arrived the first shipment arrived as well! I guess these supplies just wanted to see the world or something.

Learning - Scrap365 / CSI

Happy Birthday 97-year-old Finland! Today is Finland's Independence Day. The morning wasn't according to tradition as we had a small get together with Veera and Terhi, but during the evening we followed the tradition and watched the presidential reception. 

But back to the page I'm sharing today. It is done to a CSI / Scrap365 collaboration file and even though Scrap365 shut down, CSI blogged the challenge today. 

Here's the Case File in case you want to play along. And why wouldn't you! The soft scheme is really sweet but you can go bolder with the black if you want. And like always the Case has plenty of journaling ideas and the little details to get your creativity going.

I used the second Testimony to jump start my journaling and clicked to the Journal Jar. From there the suggestion: "How do you feel when something is unfinished?" jumped to my eyes and I journaled about that feeling and how I'm learning to live with unfinished projects. The journaling is written on a card that's tucked inside the vellum pocket under the photo.

From the Evidence part I used several different things. The jars I added through stamping and embossing to the background which also covers the "something powdery". Metal can be found from the staples as well as the little brad. With the twine I covered also two things - the string from the list and as I used it vertically it also covers the "hang something". There's also puffy stickers in there, one of which has the cursive lettering on it. And there's a few chalkboard items in there as well! 

What I really loved and love about the files is the multitude of ways you can use them! It's always funny to look through the Evidence and think all the little things you can add to the page!

Discover your sparkle - Scrap365 / made with stamps by Birgit Koopsen

Good evening blog readers and visitors! Today Marsha and me are sharing projects made with and thoughts of the new stamps set designed my Birgit Koopsen over at Scrap365 blog! Welcome to take a peek! There's a video there together with two canvas projects.

Not so long ago Birgit introduced her new stamps in the Scrap365 blog (link). The stamps are made for and by the French company Carabelle Studio. There's six different designs and you can see them all in the Scrap365 blog.

As I mentioned, there's a video over at Scrap365 blog. It's a video tutorial about stamping on modeling paste. And here's my take on the subject - a little encouraging canvas to find the sparkle within. I think I have to mention that Marsha and me created our projects without knowing what the other would do, besides the technique of course, so it's quite a delight and surprise that we both used similar color scheme and even have similar elements in our creations!

I used the tutorial to create a background for this canvas. I simply adore the "French Lily Background" stamp! It's got such a strong design that it works well on its own but still it doesn't overpower the other elements. I used the stamp three times in the canvas - first to create the texture with the modeling paste and then added it to the surface twice using different embossing powders. I also created a piece of patterned paper of my own using the "Layered Strips" stamp and added some random stamping to the background with one on the designs from "I heart Washi Tape". 

I think my favorite of the sets I have is the "French Lily Background", but I'm definitely seeing myself using the washi tape designs a lot, too! And tell you the truth, the mail man brought me some new Carabelle Studio stamps during the week and among them one set by Birgit, too!

Follow your dreams - Scrap365

Dreaming today, too! Yesterday I shared first layout for the article I did for Scrap365 magazine about dreamcatchers. The article was published in the April/May 2014 issue.  The first page was going big and this other is using just hints. 

There's a few details which have been taken from the dreamcatcher - like the arch, the feathers or the thread. I've also included small dreamcatchers in the page in form of stamping and chipboard embellishments. The photo in the page is of my older daughter but the idea applies to both of my girls - encouragement to have them follow their dreams.

Dare to dream - Scrap365

Hi there! Dare to dream! This layout is done for an article I did for Scrap365 magazine. It was published in the April/May 2014 issue. In the article I shared some ideas how to incorporate the trendy dreamcatcher to a scrapbooking page. This was one of the projects there - a big modern dreamcatcher as the vocal point. 

The 'catcher is done with cardstock and twine with a few embellishmenst. The rim of the piece is embossed with white and gold embossing powders. The gold I used also in the feather chippies. The mesh part of the piece is interpret with a few pencil lines. Sequins and half beads act like the pearls in the weave.

Not a baby anymore - Scrap365 / Kreinik

Hi there! Two down, one to go! I've been posting layouts I created for a blog post in Scrap365's blog. What they all have in common are the lovely threads by Kreinik.  

I guess you can spot a mile away that I was  inspired by the one and only Louise Nelson while making this page. When thinking about threads, she's the person that pops in mind! She's really a wizard of using thread in her creations! 

In this piece I kept the layers under the photo minimal and added metallic and silk thread underneath the photo. I glued the thread down really loosely so it would keep its flow and softness. It gives a playful look for the layout cascading from underneath the photo.

The topic of this layout is my younger one. While leafing through my stash of photos either to be scrapped or that can be scrapped I noticed how much she has changed in a very short time. She's definitely not a baby anymore but a little girl. Her features have changed so that she's not so baby-like anymore and her personality has gone even stronger. I love how you can see the change when you compare this older photo and the way she looks now.

Spring in Paris - Scrap365 / Kreinik

Hello! Yesterday I blogged first of three layouts I created for a blog post in Scrap365's blog. All the layouts have threads by Kreinik in them. 

This layout is my second project with the threads. For this one I used the Iron-On Threads together with metallics and even silk. I normally use just plain polyester thread in my creations, but do actually have a red silk thread in use, too. I love how silk is so soft and airy! The material really makes a difference in the way the thread works - even if it's for papercrafts!

I made the flowers using the Iron-On Threads and formed the thread into shapes between two sheets of baking paper. The thread was really easy to use and shape and lifted up from the baking paper easily. There's just so much you could do with this thread! You could create doily-like shapes with it and have them hovering on top of the page like these airy flowers. The thread keeps its shape really well. To give the page some extra softness I used both the metallic and silk thread underneath the flowers.

The photo of the page is taken in Paris like the title suggests. The journaling talks about how springtime in Paris was beautiful and if I should make a habit out of the journey.

Headstrong - Scrap365 / Kreinik

Hi there and good evening! Today I have the pleasure of sharing you this layout I created for a blog post in Scrap365's blog. When I got some of my published works back the other day, inside the parcel with the layouts were a set of threads by Kreinik. They were really inspirational! I made total three layouts with them for the post and have been playing with them ever since. Here's the first of the three.  

For this first layout I used Kreinik metallic threads. They are really wonderful, glimmering threads that have some bulk in them. First of all I coated two chipboard circles with the metallic threads. It took me a while to wrap the thread around the shape, but I think the end result is worth the trouble! The shiny thread creates a lovely embellishment and vocal point and as the thread is a bit thicker than your normal sewing thread it doesn't take ages to cover the chippie.

I also used the same threads to make a friendship bracelet style ribbon with a chevron design. You can find instructions to do one over at the internet. And lastly I added a piece of thread just on top of the circular frames and attached it with a stapler.

The story of the layout is the personality of my younger daughter. She's headstrong in many ways - she's really determined but also brave and daring in a way.

Child Of Spring - Scrap365

Hi and lovely Friday! Today I have a layout over at Scrap365's blog. It's created for the "10 Ways...with a pencil" article I have in the Jun/Jul issue of the magazine. You can get your own copy here (link).

They say that the pen is mightier than a sword. I have no experience of the latter, but I do love to use pencil in my creations. And it's quite mighty as there's plenty of things you can do with it! This layout consist all the 10 ideas I'm giving in the magazine of how to incorporate something pencilled into your creation. Can you spot all the ten? 

The topic of this page is my older daughter who's birthday is in the spring. The journaling tells how about she resembles the season - she's full of light, warms up slowly to new things and is a sunny personality almost all the time. I wanted to use a spring-like color scheme in the layout so I chose to go with white, light grey and lime green. The layout uses only a few pieces of patterned papers and rest of the layers are self made with pencilled pieces.

Heippa ja ihanaa perjantaita! Tänään minulla on ilo esitellä tämä leiska Scrap365:n blogissa. Sivu on tehty uusimman lehden artikkeliin "10 Ways...with a pencil". Oman kopion tuosta lehdestä voi tilata vaikka täältä (linkki).

Sanonta kuuluu, että kynä on miekkaa mahtavampi. Minulla ei ole kokemusta toisesta, mutta lyijykynää kyllä käytän ahkerasti projekteissani. Ja onhan se aika mahtava, sillä se taipuu niin monenlaiseen juttuun! Tässä sivussa on kaikki kymmenen ajatusta siitä, miten kynää voi käyttää sivussa. Löydätkö kaikki kymmenen? 

Sivun aiheena on vanhempi tyttöni, joka on syntynyt keväällä. Tarinointi kertoo siitä, miten tirppa on samanlainen kuin syntymäajankohtansa - valoisa, hitaasti lämpenevä (uusille asioille) ja aurinkoinen lähes kaiken aikaa. Halusin käyttää sivussa keväistä väriskaalaa, joten valitsin väreiksi neutraalin valkoisen ja harmaan ja toin väriä limenvihreällä. Sivussa on vain muutama kuviopaperi ja paljon lyijykynällä tehtyjä yksityiskohtia.

Amusement Park - Scrap365

Stunning Saturday! As the new summer issue of Scrap365 came out a week ago, it's time to share a few projects I made on an older issue. This layout is part of a confetti article I did and was published in the Feb/Mar 2014 issue. Yesterday I posted the first page in the article and this is the second one. 

The article was about what could be used like confetti instead of the little paper cicles they most commonly are. If you'd like to know more, please visit the Traplet shop and buy your own issue. And if you'd like to have the magazine delivered home every time a new issue is out, make a subscription! 

The story behind the layout is our visit to the amusement park last summer. Girls enjoyed the visit as they got into the rides and even got some cotton candy and pop corn. I used the colors from the photo to create a happy, bright layout about the visit.

Ihanaa lauantaita! Koska Scrap365-lehden uusin kesänumero julkaistiin viikko sitten on aika postata muutama projekti aiemmasta lehdestä. Yllä oleva sivu on lehden Feb/Mar 2014 -numerosta. Bloggasin eilen jo toisen sivun  samaisesta artikkelista. 

Tämä sivu, kuten eilinenkin, ilmestyi artikkelissa, jonka aiheena oli konfetti. Käsittelin siinä mitä kaikkea muuta voisi käyttää konfettin tapaan kuin vain pieniä paperi pyörylöitä. Jos haluaisit tietää lisää ja englanti taittuu, käväisepä Traplet shopissa ja hommaa oma numerosi lehteä. Ja jos puolestaan haluaisit uusimman numeron aina kotiin kannettuna, tilaa lehti suoraan kotiin! 

Sivu kertoo viime kesäisestä reissusta Linnanmäelle. Huvipuistossa oli viime vuonna mahdollisuus mennä muutamaan laitteeseen ilmaiseksi ja lapset hyödynsivät tätä tarjousta innolla. Reissun lopuksi maistelimme vielä popcornia ja hattaraa. Nappasin sivun värit tuosta kuvasta ja koetin saada tunnelmasta iloisen ja leikkisän.

Ps. Kyselin jokin aika sitten teidän mielipidettänne kirjoituskieleen niin täällä blogissa kuin Facebookissakin. Varsin moni kertoi jatkavansa silti vierailuja blogissani vaikka lukeminen jäisikin vähemmälle jos pudottaisin suomen pois. Muutamat puolestaan kannustivat kielen vaihtoon tai kertoivat jo nyt lukevansa blogiani englanniksi. 

Päätin siis, että kirjoitan postaukset suomeksi vielä tämän kuun ajan, mutta sitten jatkan bloggaamista ainoastaan englanniksi. Syynä tähän on puhtaasti ajankäyttö - postauksen kääntäminen toiselle kielelle vie aikaa. Teen saman postauksen oikeastaan kahdesti. Koska valtaosa lukijoistani on kotoisin muusta maasta kuin Suomesta jätän kieleksi englannin, joka myös kääntyy muille kielille Googlella paremmin kuin suomi.

Bright Idea - Scrap365

Sunny Friday everyone! As the new summer issue of Scrap365 came out a week ago, it's time to share a few projects I made on an older issue. This layout is part of a confetti article I did and was published in the Feb/Mar 2014 issue.

This layout is about how me played with colors with the kids or rather how I demonstrated how the colors mix together. We started with primary colors and via some stages (secondary colors, tertiary colors) ended up with brown mess. Girls enjoyed tremendously pouring the liquids into each other and seeing the color change.

Saatuamme aikaan välivärit ja muutaman välivälivärin, päästin tyttelit valloilleen ja lopputulos oli ruskeaa sotkua. Tytöistä oli hurjan hauskaa nähdä, miten värit muuttuivat toisiinsa sekoittuessa.
