Enjoy 2015 - Canvas Corp Brands

It's Friday and almost weekend! Do you have any plans for the weekend? I'm working tomorrow but no plans so far for Sunday. Plans and planners are the topic of a new Canvas Corp Crew post. They are so trendy right now, don't you think?

I don't have a planner but I do have a small calendar where I mark all my work shifts and other events. For next Monday there's a big marking of my first ever Ustream show (link)

As the inside of the calendar is full of markings and dates I couldn't do anything inside but the black cover was just screaming some painty touches making it mine. I also added a tag to the black ribbon the calendar already had. I thought the "Live Every Day" fitted the theme quite well.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a nice weekend!

Acorn hats - Scrap365

Hi there! I blogged a layout called "Light The Way" a few days ago (link) and one of the embellishments is the page was an acorn hat. Those were made for Scrap365 but never made to publish as the magazine was dropped. I've been hoarding these ever since trying to find a good spot for them.

The hats are done easily using Gelatos and Soft Gloss Gel. I first gently colored the hat with Gelatos crayon and then spread the color with the Soft Gloss Gel all across the inside of the hat. After the paint had dried I then doodled on the inside with a white Sharpie.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a great Tuesday!

Recipe holder - Canvas Corp Brands

Hello there and happy Sunday evening! Today I'm sharing with you a quick touch-up.

It was one of my teen birthdays that a friend gave me a recipe holder. It is a small binder with ready blank recipe cards inside. Ever since I've been adding tried and liked recipes inside but what I have actually never liked are the covers. So now that we had a recipe challenge over at Canvas Corp I finally got to it and changed the cover!

First I painted the edges of the cover with black gesso and then added pieces of the "Farmhouse Kitchen Reverse on Ivory" paper on top. Lastly I wrapped the whole thing under a layer of sticky back plastic to protect the surface from wear and tear. It was done in no time and now I'm even happy with the look of the binder, not just the insides!

Wishing you a great start to the new week! Thank you for stopping by today!

Phone case my way - Mixed Media Place

Today it's Election Day here in Finland so I guess blue shades are just the right thing as the white-blue flags are fluttering in the wind. This blueish project is done for Mixed Media Place and their new challenge with the theme "power of one". Funnily all in the DT taking part to the challenge chose to go with similar color scheme in blueish shades.

The rules of the challenge are simple: use 1 stencil and 1 stamp and then pick 1 color. You can use any paint media in that color but just that one color. Luckily you can also use black and white  so you have three colors to use!

This challenge is conjured by Gayle. She says: "When restricted to using a limited range of materials you have to explore other ways of adding interest to your work. So what could you do? You can use varying SHADES of the one colour you choose, going from dark to light. You can add PATTERN by way of the stamp you choose, patterned papers, chipboard and the stencil you choose. You can also add detail withTEXTURE by way of pastes and gels, fibres, beads and embellishments.Once you start you will find you are not really that restricted, and many creative ideas will become evident."

My project for the challenge is altered phone case. I’ve been craving for a mixed media styled phone case for some time. So what better to do than to make one myself! So I bought a cheap case and then primed it with gesso. My first idea was to have something 3D in there, but then I came to my senses and realized that the important part of the phone is to be functional as well. So I didn’t use Mechanicals and gel medium, but instead made layers with different paint mediums.

First I added some mists on top of the gesso and dried them. Then I used a stencil with acrylic paint and Stamper’s Big Brush Pens. I also added some pencil doodles in there and lastly shaded the edges using a PITT pen.

As the challenge states, I chose one color (turquoise) and then used one stencil and stamp also. After doing all the layers I lastly coated the case with a coat of Soft Gel to seal everything in.

Thank you for stopping by today! Have a great start to the new week!

Peaceful Good Friday. This project got shared in Canvas Corp's blog yesterday. It's something super easy and quick for kitchen! Picture frames using Canvas Corp papers. One frame takes about ten minutes to make so you can create a trio in just half an hour. They'd make a great vocal point for your own kitchen wall or then something to take along when going to a dinner party or visiting a relative.

Spread Wings - Craft Stamper

Hello there! Today I want to share this project with you I did for Craft Stamper's October 2014 issue. It was published in an article titled "Around The House: Jumping Through Hoops". The idea behind the article was using supplies from a sewing kit in crafting and making a mixed media piece. It's funny how much you can do with limited supplies and how it really inspires sometimes to challenge yourself!

I used the embroidery hoop as the frame for this piece. The background I made using buttons and snap fasteners as stamps and the bird is done using thread in a needle puched opening. On top of things found in sewing kit I used acrylic paint, gelli plate, mist, alpha stamps and ink.

Thank you for your visit! Have a great weekend!

2015 calendar - GDT C'est Magnifique Kits

Hello! I've been guesting for C'est Magnifique in January also and this time I did four projects. I've shared one layout together with a video already and there's two more layouts to come but today I wanted to share something else.

As the kit contained a photo frame, I wanted to use an idea that has been popping around Pinterest quite a lot - building a mini album around the frame. And as the year is just turning and the sticker sheet holds the names of the months, I decided to do a little calendar hanging from the frame.

I decorated the cover heavily compared to the inner pages. The inner pages only hold a calendar piece I created using Word, a few pieces of patterned paper and the month sticker. On the cover I used parts of the big flower, the roses and the ribbons. I also included patterned papers and a tag. The frame itself I painted with three of the paints found in the mixed media kit.

I gifted this calendar away and it's time to start filling my own. Do you have big plans for 2015?

Thank you for stopping by today! It's always such a pleasure!

My favorites of 2014 - other projects

Looking for the giveaway? Please check here (link)!

It's still some hours until the year changes but the fireworks are already coloring the sky here. I've dedicated the last posts of this year to different favorites. I'm posting my favorite cards, layouts and canvases/altered projects of 2014. I've already posted my favorite cards of 2014 (link) and layouts (link) but now it's time to take a look back and also share the other projects I've been doing along the year. If you want to take a look of something similar I did on 2013 here's the link to last year's post.

This year has been good in so many ways. Some of my dreams came true this year and it seems that some will come true during 2015, too. As in 2013 I applied to some teams and got accepted to some and even was asked to guest in others. Every single mail and message made me all giddy inside and jump up and down with joy! I was ever so delighted when I joined the Canvas Corp Brands crew. I was overjoyed when asked to join the Finnabair's first team. I was smiling like a crazy person when I got to the fabulous team of 7 Dots Studio and got the chance to continue with Mixed Media Place. But there was also some sad news like the closure of Scrap365 Magazine, paperHaus and Paperilla in magazine form. My design teams of 2014 include in addition to those listed before also fantastic Craft Stamper Magazine, lovely Epiphany Crafts, ever-inspiring 3rd Eye and superb Scrap Around The World. I also was a design team member in the fabulous CSI but because of simple lack of time didn't re-apply to the team during the call and left mid 2014.

I also did some guesting this year. One of the guest places was Epiphany Crafts which then changed to a design team until the end of the year. I guested in other manufacturer's or brands like Happy Scatter, Um Wow Studio, Wow Embossing Powder, Birgit Koopsen for Carabelle Studio, Wow Embossing Powder, Kreinik and a store A Sprinkle of Imagination. The guest appearance in C'est Manifique Kits also continues in the first months of 2015. I also created pieces to forums and challenges such as Koukussa Kortteihin, Sketchabilities, Swe Scrapbook, Scrappeland.no, Berry71Bleu, SanDee and amelie's challenge, Scrap Africa and Skissedilla. On top of those I made an appearance in some blogs like the "Frosty Festivities" blog event or "The weekend guest" at Be Stamped or at N*Studio with Nathalie's lovely stamps.

On top of those opportunities I also got to teach in different cities and even online. Thank you all the persons and shops that contacted me and invited me to come! Thank you also Shirel who invited me to be a part of Pop & Colours #3 and Pop and Colours 2 online workshops! Thank you also May Flaum for inviting me to be a part of "Creative Retreat" online workshop.

I'm really grateful for all the opportunities and chances I've been given! I'm also really thankful for all you readers and visitors so once again a big thank you over to you! Thank you also for visiting today! Wishing you a beautiful, inspiring 2015!

Here's my favorite projects of 2014, I hope you enjoy!

I did many ATCs during 2014 and really enjoy this form. These birdie ones here represent my love for the small pieces of experiments and art. I also want to thank everyone who's traded a card with me!

Following are some art journal covers I've done. I would do a lot more of them if I would art journal more! But as I don't make that many pages there's no need for more journals. ...unless I would start sending them away... hmm...

I haven't done that many art journal pages, but there's some and this one is a favorite of mine which is rusty colors and that photo.

Horsies start the cavalcade of altered projects. I've really enjoyed making these, especially those inspired by music!

And last but not least are the canvases. I've done ladies this year, too, but the piece that was the first one I thought of when making this list is the one that ends it. The heart of Turisas canvas.

Farmhouse Christmas ornaments - Canvas Corp Brands

Joy to the world! The Holidays are coming! Here's another Christmas themed post I did for Canvas Corp Brands blog, this time using the "Farmhouse Christmas" collection. I crafted some easy Christmas ornaments and decorations with it.

I used different dies to cut the shapes for the decorations but you can also use punches or simply scissors. The baubles are done with four circles stacked together, on top of each other and then sewn together with a sewing machine following the diameter. Then I've bend the halves upwards thus creating a dimensional shape. Lastly I used a needle to get the thread you can hung the ornament to the tree in place. And you know what that thread is? As I didn't have thin enough thread from Canvas Corp in my selection I frayed the threads from a piece of burlap. They were just the right thickness and also had a lovely rustic feel in them.

The rosette decorations are done using a rosette die, but you can make them without one, too. Just fold a piece of cardstock like an accordion and glue the ends together. I used a cut out dear head, word "Winter" and a small key to decorate the rosettes.

The morning I made the paper decorations my younger girl had given me two sticks as a present. I thought first to leave them outside but then saw the possibilities together with this collection. So I turned them into hanging decorations as well. First I made the loop for the hanging and placed it to the side of the stick. Then I took a longer piece of the frayed thread and wrapped it tightly around the stick, also having the loop under it and then secured the end with a drop of glue.

The chain of little wreaths is done simply by cutting the wreath images out of the patterned paper using a circle die and then sewing the circles together with a sewing machine. That kind of chain might look good on top of a gift, too!

Thank you for stopping by today! Let the preparations continue!
