Etaana - Sodalicious August Sketch

Hi there! How's your weekend been? I hope you have had some time for creativity! Today I share with you this page I did using Sodalicious sketch and with some lovely new paints!

We visited Tampere during our summer vacation and of course we needed to stop by at local craft store, Paperilohikäärme, too. They had the Dina Wakley acrylic paints in stock and I decided to buy a few as I've noticed that every time I would love to use a purple paint I decide against it as i would need to mix the paint. I know, so silly, it would only need a second! But anyway, the end result was that I left the store with a selection of the paints and a promise to blog my thoughts of them.

I'm so so happy that I decided to buy a few and ended up a great rainbow of those paints as I simply love them! Their texture and thickness are just ideal for my use! And those yummy colors! I have to admit that normally I have used a range of different paints never thinking too much about them. Most of my paints are from Talens, the Amsterdam range, and there's nothing wrong with those, but the Dina Wakley are thicker. Like the packaging says, they are heavy body and I love that. Even though I have quite a good range already, I really need to get a few more to get the complete collection!

For this layout I used a technique with the paints that Maikkis used to create this card. She also made a video about the process (in Finnish). I've seen the technique before but completely forgot it since the moment I saw the video. So thank you Maikkis for the inspiration! And thank you Elina and Paperilohikäärme for the paints!  

   

But to the layout! The story behind it is movie "Frozen". We watched it together with the girls some time ago and they completely fell in love with the story and the magical powers. Well, I have to admit that I really liked the story, too, and was completely captivated by the music! But ever since we watched the cartoon, the characters have showed up in kids' games. My younger one is always just Elsa, but my older one came up with a magical character of her own - Etaana. Her super power is to create baby snails and do dishes with her feet. I think it's so cute and cool so just had to document it!

Pelot / Fears

Tämä sivu syntyi Scrap African luonnoksen #11 pohjalta. Aihevalinta puolestaan sai inspiraatiota CSI haasteeseen osallistuneesta työstä, jossa oli kuvattu lapsen sen hetkinen pelko. Ajatuksissa tuo pattereiden kuvaus on ollut jo hetken, mutta kipinän skräpätä tämä aihe sain siitä, kun tyttöä alkoi pelottaa tuo lahjaksi saatu iso nukke. Aiemmin nukke on istuskellut tuolilla huoneen nurkassa silloin kun se ei ole leikeissä, mutta nyt nukke on ainakin yöaikaan aina tutimassa pikkusiskon sängyn päädyssä lattialla, niin ettei se näy isosiskon sänkyyn.

This page is made with the sketch from Scrap Africa's challenge #11. The topic on the other hand was inspired by a layout I saw in CSI, where the topic was child's fear. I have been thinking about scrapping those radiators for a while now, but got a new spark when my older girl told me, she was afraid of the big doll at nights. Previously the doll has sat in a stool in children's room when it's now in their play. But nowadays it's always on the floor behind little sister's bed during nights, so that it can't be seen from the big sis's bed.

Escape the daily routine

SODAliciouksen art journal haasteessa oli tällä kertaa aiheena pako arjesta. Piti tehdä jotain ihan muuta ja teinkin, mutta tämä sivu soveltuu aiheeseen loppujen lopuksi paremmin kuin toinen aukeama. Tekstissä lukee: "Escape the everyday and imagine, create & dream and grow". Taustasta on tulossa videota.

Here's what I choose to include to the SODAlicious art journal challenge. I actually made a spread earlier, but after a thought I decided that this spread would go better with the subject. The text reads "Escape the everyday and imagine, create & dream and grow". There's a video coming of making that background!

Waiting for...

Eilen illalla (lue yöllä) oli vielä sellainen olo, että piti saada sormet musteeseen kaikkien tietokonejuttujen jälkeen. Kurkkasin pikaisesti SODAliciouksen tämän hetkisen art journal -haasteen ja huomasin, että jos haluaisin osallistua siihen, pitäisi tuotos saada blogattua tänään. 

Mutta sivu siis syntyi eilen - nappasin summamutikassa kaksi Dylusions suihketta ja huomasin saaneeni pinkin ja turkoosin. Sitten yhtä arvonnalla meni sabluuna, nappasin sen joka käteen osui ja läksin suihkimaan kylpyhuoneeseen. Sumutin aukeamalle ensin pinkkiä, suljin kirjan ja kuivasin musteen. Sitten laitoin tuon sablunan ja suihkuttelin turkoosia. Leimailin sablunalla sinne tänne. Lopuksi lisäsin päälle vielä aavistuksen gessoa. 

Roiskin joukkoon Glimmer Glazea ja alkoholimustetta, piirtelin tähtiä, leimasin tähtiä ja tuputtelin mustetta punchinellan läpi.

Otsikon leimasin osissa nurkkiin ja tekstin kirjoitin SODAliciouksen paperiteipille.

I made this spread for the current art journal challenge by SODAlicious. Last night, after all the sitting by the computer, I still needed to get my hands dirty, that is to say inked, so I decided to do a spread for my journal. 

I grabbed two random Dylusions sprays and ended up with pink and turquoise. Then I grabbed a stencil and got this hounds tooth by Crafter´s Workshop. First I sprayed some pink to the spread, closed the journal and then dried the ink. Then I placed the stencil over and sprayed the turquoise. I also used the stencil as a stamp. Just a touch of gesso and I was ready to add another media. 

I splashed some alcohol ink and Glimmer Glaze to the page, drew some stars and added ink through punchinella. 

Then I stamped the title to opposite corners and added the journaling on top of paper tape strips by SODAlicious.

Minä syrän sinä x3 / I heart you times three

SODAliciouksen art journal haasteessa on tässä kuussa aiheena sydän. Minä päädyin tällaiseen ratkaisuun. Jotain toista työtä tehdessäni maskiin jäi niin ihanasti suihketta, että pakkohan se oli hyödyntää - leimasin siis musteet tähän aukeamalle. Ja sitten piti testata sinisen suihkeen sävyä ja suihkin sitä tuonne oikeaan reunaan. Haastetta ajatellen leimasin, maskasin ja piirsin sivuille sydämiä. Tuli myös laitettua vähän kohojauhetta ja washiteippiä. Journaling kiertää aukeamaa.

The topic of SODAlicious' art journal challenge is this time heart. I made this spread to the challenge. This is my second ever art journal spread. While working on a scrapbooking LO I ended up with a mask covered in lovely pink mist - it would have been such a waste to throw it away, so I "stamped" the mist here. Then I needed to know the shade of one mist and tried it on the right. After that I concentrated on the heart part. I stamped, drew and stenciled some hearts to the pages. I also used embossing powder and washi tapes. Journaling frames to spread.
