Unknown Flowers - Seth Apter Creative Team

Moikka! Last Sunday Seth Apter started an art exhibition and sale for his Creative Team. I created a triptych for it and will now show the pieces in individual posts. Yesterday I blogged the first piece of the trio and today I'm showing the second piece.

This second piece is called "Unknown Flowers". The line adhered to the work is: "Okända blommor lysa på stranden" - "Unknown flowers shine on the shore". I sketched different flowers but chose in the end to go with these dandelion styled plants. I loved how they felt that they could grow underneath the water as well as on the shore.

All of the three pieces are done on top of a wooden canvas, or a wooden block. They are a bit dimensional so I wanted the edge to have a detail, too. I cut thin strips of book paper and went around the piece with those. To keep with the Swedish theme, they are of a Swedish book. There's also a tiny gold line going around the surface of the piece.

I started each piece the same way. There's some collaging in the pieces using old Finnish receipts. On top I then added some stencil work, doodles and stamping. In the color layers I mixed different blue tones and also added some Izink ICE, an acrylic glaze in there. There's also some metallic acrylics used to paint to add a little shine. For the first and second piece I then added a hand drawn element on top, colored it and then added the strip of the poem to each piece. As a final touch I added a heavy layer of glossy finish on top using a brush so there's some dimensional marks in the transparent layer.

Both the fish and the flowers were first sketched to another piece of paper. I then cut the designs loose and collaged them on top of the wooden piece. I then colored the works using different acrylic paints, markers and pencil. You can see the raised layer if you tilt the work a little.

Thank you for stopping by today! Tomorrow I share the last piece of the triptych!
