Green nymph - workshop in Amalia

Hi there! Hopefully you've had a wonderful, inspiring weekend! I had a really awesome time today as I was giving a workshop in Espoo. We did a lady canvas there and the canvas in this post is my class sample which I made today.

It was the first time I kept this workshop and it seemed that four hours is quite a good time for the class. We played with gel medium, gesso and mists and everyone did their version of the lady. I had the Prima stamp with me so people didn't have to draw the face unless they wanted to.

It was so great to see that everyone's canvas was so different and personal even though most of the materials were the same. I love d the variations on the color scheme, the design and the elements they used! It's always such a pleasure to be teaching - it gives so much to me, too! Or at least it gives much to the students, too!

I love how you can use almost anything in these canvases! As long as it has a nice shape or structure, just throw it in! We had some lovely blooms in the workshop and plenty of other stuff as well - like lightbulbs, bottle caps, buttons and soda can openers. Amalia, the shop I was in, is moving and we were provided with a massive amount of little things to play with and add to the canvases.

I decided to go green with this canvas early on. My idea was to paint the lady with "normal" skin tones, but when I gave her face a coat of gesso I really fell in love with the subtle shade of green it created together with the greens from the background. So I decided to create a nymph or a dryad instead and keep her green. Once again I struggled with the eyes and she's a bit cross-eyed still, but that gives her personality, right?

Thank you for taking a look and wishing you a peaceful start to the week!
