Inspired by Wende

It's again the 10th of the month and time for the "Inspired by" creation! But what is Inspired by? Every month awesome Marsha and I choose a subject to be inspired by. It can be a movie (link), an item (link), a designer (link), a painting (link) or a music style (link). Then we make something inspired by that theme or a piece of art and share it with you and each other on the 10th of the month.

This time our subject was a piece of music again. This time we chose an artist that speaks to us both and who was actually introduced to me by Marsha - Wende. Her music hit me right away and I ordered her CD from the Netherlands I couldn't find it here in Finland. We chose the song "Do Berlin" for the inspiration as it was back then the only one from the new album with a video on YouTube, but concured that we could use other songs too to be inspired by.

The dark, a bit depressing atmosphere of the "Do Berlin" and the video spoke to me. I wanted to make something strong, a bit dark and use oily, dark colors. I was also inspired by the line "Is your heart of wild roses" and made a steel heart that is starting to bloom.

First I covered a small canvas with left over alphas just sticking them anyway the fitted the space. Then I applied a coat of gesso on top and let it dry. After that I colored the piece with brown, grey and black mists layering them on top of each other for a intense color. Lastly I splashed some Glimmer Glaze Oil Slick to the background to get the oily look.

The heart is made out of paper mache made from toilet paper and then covered with aluminium foil tape. The rivets are done by pressing a pencil to the surface leaving a tiny circle. I have then added some black acrylic paint to the surface and wiped it off so the color stayed only in the cracks and holes. I also added a touch of color to the heart's surface with alcohol ink.

The flowers are glued to plase and then treated with tea to match them more to the brown color scheme of the canvas.

Thank you for stopping by! Please, now head over to Marsha to see what she has created this time! I know I can't wait to see!

Cool!!! The texture on looks amazing! So you made the heart from toilet paper? Is it all toilet paper or did you have some kind of structure underneath? It looks so cool! I love that you took inspiration from that sentence. It's a great visual. And it's funny that to you the song is a bit depressing, but to me it's upbeat. But I have to agree that it's definitely dark :-). Thank you!!!!

Thank you Marsha :")

The heart is solid paper, no structure underneath. Just layer upon layer of paper :D
