Little nests - tutorial

It has been sunny days here in Finland this week and they make me think that spring just might be around the corner. Easter and spring made me think of little nests and I thought to make a tutorial how to create these cuties with some steel thread, dried grass and some clay.

Start by gathering a small amount of grass and shape it into a line. Then take the steel thread and wrap it loosely around the grass. The idea is to  gather the grass with the thread, not to pack it tightly.

Wrap the piece into a small circle and secure it with the wire. Don't cut the wire short yet, but leave a piece of it to the ring. Leave aside for a while.

Kietaise palanen sitten ympyrän muotoon ja kiinnitä päät toisiinsa rautalangalla. Älä leikkaa lankaa vielä poikki, vaan jätä pätkä rautalankaa kiinni renkaaseen. Jätä hetkeksi odottamaan.

Take another piece of the grass and shape it into a small circle. Take a piece of the wire and thread it trough the center of the circle. Then wrap the wire around the edge of the circle and back to center again. Repeat four to five times. This way you secure the shape of the grass.

Toista neljä-viisi kertaa. Näin saat meriheinäpalleron pitämään muotonsa.

Add the two pieces together, the circle under neath the ring. Then use the wire left in the ring to tie the two parts together. Use the wire like thread and "sew" the pieces together from their edges.

Finish with little eggs made of clay and colored for example with Glimmer Glam. The dark nest is colored with Tattered Angels mist, too.

Viimeistele ilmakuivuvasta massasta muovailluilla munilla. Munat voi värjätä vaikkapa Glimmer Glamilla. Kuvan tumma pesä on valmistuttuaan värjätty Tattered Angels mistillä.

These little ones look good in a scrapbooking project, card or an altered item. I made this letter K to our front door. A little bit different spring wreath.

If you liked this tutorial, be sure to check the Easter blog hop, too!

Nämä pienet pesät näyttävät mainioilta skräppisivussa, kortissa tai muussa askartelussa. Itse käytin yhden etuovessamme olevan K-kirjaimen koristamiseen. Vähän erilainen kevätkranssi.
