Just because... - Ihana

Sunny Saturday (at least I hope it's sunny)! Yesterday I blogged a layout I did for Ihana magazine and that was published in the issue 3/2014. Here's a card that was shown in the same article using the same technique but with less layers. The two golden strips of paint raise from the base with 3 D foam squares.

For the greeting or rather the text part I used three different stamps combined to make a statement or a paragraph. "Do what makes you happy - just because - my story".

Star - Ihana

Hi there and welcome! My Finnish readers may recognize this layout I'm blogging today. It was published in Ihana magazine along with a tutorial to those "sticker" paint strokes. 

The page is about my older daughter who shines like a star. The journaling is partly about her, partly about the guitar she's holding. It's a Christmas present my husband did for the girls last Christmas. It's kid sized so both of the girls can play it easily and really enjoy making music with it.

As the article was about the paint strips I kept the rest of the page pretty simple. Just a piece of white cardstock stenciled with the same paints I used in the "peeled paint", a few pieces of patterned papers and embellishments that went with the color scheme.

Bloom & Grow - Paperilla

From autumn to bright summer! Yesterday I shared a canvas I created for 7 Dots Studio in a fall mood and today I share this layout I made for summer issue of Paperilla magazine. Last week I already shared the cards I made for the same issue using the same tutorial.

The Paperilla magazine is a Finnish paper crafts publication and can be found both in print and online (link). The summer number had a garden theme. I did two cards and a layout for the issue together with a tutorial. I can't share the tutorial, naturally, but can show you the pieces made with it.

This page is made about my first born, like a little wish for her. To bloom and grow and follow her heart. She's such a gentle soul and so kind! The journaling reads: "Grow and bloom, find your own path and follow it. Listen to your heart and look the world through it. Love you!"

The flower stamps are by Stampendous. I stamped some of the blooms to the background but used them as embellishments, too. I stamped then onto white cardstock, added touches of color using Gelatos and then cut the flowers off the paper. I used 3 D foam squares to adhere the flowers to the page.

Garden Cards - Paperilla

Hi there and happy Saturday! The month has turned and the beginning of autumn is starting to close in. Luckily the weather here in Finland is still really summery! How's the weather treating you?

These cards were created for the summer issue of Paperilla magazine. The magazine is in Finnish and can be found both in print and online (link). The summer number of the magazine had a garden theme. I did two cards and a layout for the issue together with a tutorial. I can't share the tutorial, naturally, but can show you the pieces made with it.  

The both cards have the same kind of background - the other one in a repeating pattern and the other one just one. The embellishments include some summery flowers and stamps by Stampendous. I used one of my favorite color scheme lately in these - pink and yellow together. Somehow I find this combination really fresh and summery!

Recycle - Paperilla

As the new fabulous issue of Paperilla is here, I'd like to share with you a project I did for the previous issue. That issue had a theme about recycling. 

In my project I used the little washing instruction tags found in garments to make the background and then embellished it with a few sewing inspired things. Those roses are made with strips of cotton fabric and the leaves are made of zippers.

Koska Paperilla-lehden hieno uusi numero on julkaistu, lienee aika blogata edelliseen numeroon tekemäni projekti. Edellisen lehden teemana oli kierrätys. 

Käytin kortissani vaatteiden pesuohjelappuja taustan tekoon ja koristin kortin sitten ompeluhenkisillä jutuilla. Ruusut on tehty puuvillakangassuikaleista ja lehtinä on vetoketjulenkit.

Decorating the Tree

We wish you a Merry Christmas! Oh no, wait a minute? But anyhow, here's a layout I did several months ago to a gallery call but it didn't got chosen to be published. The pictures are taken back in 2012, when our girls were decoration grandparent's tree. I have similar set of photos of my older daughter, too.

I made the background with gesso and mists using a straw. The lines the mist made resemble Christmas tree needles a bit.

Taas toivotus hyvän joulun! Eikun hetkinen? Joka tapauksessa, tässä on sivu, jonka tein viime syksynä erääseen julkaisuun, mutta sivu ei päässyt lehteen asti. Leiskan kuvat on otettu vuonna 2012, kun tytöt koristelivat kuusta isovanhempien luona. Minulla on samanlainen setti myös toisesta tytöstäni. 

Tein taustan gessolla ja misteillä. Mistit on puhallettu ympäri sivua pillin avulla. Lopputulos muistuttaa hieman neulasia.

If I rest I rust canvas - Paperilla

Hello there! This canvas is one of the crafts I created using Paperilla kits and was previously published in a secret blog for the kit buyers. The big chipboard letters in the kit were the inspiration to this piece. I used a previously made canvas as my base and removed most of the previous layers.

In the previous canvas I had a text which I wanted to use again. I feel that the phrase "If I rest I rust" somehow goes for me. Only in high fewer or severe migraine attack I'm able to do nothing, otherwise it's almost impossible for me to just "be", I'm always doing something.

Heippa! Tämä kanvas on yksi niistä töistä, jotka tein käyttäen Paperillan kittejä. Työ on aiemmin julkaistu yksityisessä blogissa, johon pääsivät kittien ostajat. Tähän kanvakseen minua inspiroivat kitissä olleet isot chipboard-kirjaimet. Tein työn vanhan työn pohjaan, josta olin ensin puhdistanut. 

Aiemmassa kanvaksessa samaisella pohjalla oli lause, jonka halusin säilyttää. Koen, että lausahdus "If I rest I rust", vähän tyyliin "Vierivä kivi ei sammaloidu", sopii itseeni. Vain korkeassa kuumeessa tai migreenikohtauksessa pystyn olemaan tekemättä mitään, muuten pitää aina jotain touhuta.

The Little Things - Paperilla

As the new Paperilla magazine has been published and should hit the stores in just a few days, I can share with you this layout that was in the previous issue. The piece also had a tutorial how to make that glittering background. You can already upload the new issue from here and the previous issue is also still available. The magazine is in Finnish.

The layout is about the little things in life that make it all sweeter. In this case quite literally as the photo is of a chocolate bar and tea.

Koska uusi Paperilla-lehti on julkaistu ja saapuu tänään kauppoihin, voin blogata tämän sivun, joka julkaistiin lehden edellisessä numerossa. Tämän leiskan ohella lehdessä oli tutoriaali tuon taustan tekoon sekä kortti samalla taustalla. Uuden numeron pääsee jo lukemaan nettiversiona täältä ja aiempi numero puolestaan löytyy täältä.

Sivu kertoo elämän pienistä iloista, jotka saavat elon makeammaksi. Tässä tapauksessa varsin konkreettisesti, sillä kuvassa on suklaata ja teetä.

Just because I love you - Paperilla

Hi there and lovely Friday! Today I'm sharing with you an oldie layout I did for Paperilla magazine using one of their kits. The layout was published in a special blog known only to those who bought the kits. I also recorded a video while working on the page. The texts are in Finnish, but you can see the process there. The layout is about my sweet first born, who adores pink and girly things. So I made the layout reflect that and my love for her.

Heippa ja ihanaa perjantaita! Tänään jaan tämän sivun, jonka tein Paperilla-lehdelle käyttäen yhtä lehden kittiä. Sivu on ollut julkaistuna jo salatussa blogissa, joka oli vain kitin ostajien tiedossa. Nauhoitin myös videon työskentelystäni ja sen voit katsoa yltä.

Kitin vaalet paperit ja sydämen muotoinen kakkupaperi innostivat luomaan söpöstelysivun esikoisestani. Käytin kitistä paljon tuotteita, mutta lisäsin joukkoon myös omiani, kuten mistiä, gessoa, maalarinteippiä ja kultaista kimalleliimaa.

Kitin mukana tulleissa tarroissa oli ihana lausahdus "Just because" jota täydensin tarra-aakkosilla tehdyllä otsikolla. Toin sivuun haurautta ja söpöyttä kuultopapeilla sekä paperikerrosten alla olevalla kukkakuosilla.

Take Flight - Paperilla

This is a page I created for the Paperilla challenge. It's my last work as a member of Paperilla DT. Thank you Minna for having me! 

The kit for this challenge contained many things connected to flying so I did an art journal spread with that theme. I added the little birdies, the hot air balloon and the air plane to the page and spelled the title with letter stickers. It refers to letting dreams fly, but can be also about taking a plane to different countries. 

I created the background using gesso, book pages and TA mists. I adhered the heart shaped doily on top of the gesso layer so that it would get more color than the background. I also stamped a few clouds with a 3rd Eye stamp and drew in a bunch, too.

Tämä aukeama on tehty Paperillan "Samat materiaalit" -haasteeseen. Se on viimeinen työni Paperillan tiimiläisenä. Kiitos Minnalle luottamuksesta! On upea seurata lehden voittokulkua! 

Haasteen tarvikepaketissa oli paljon lentämiseen liittyviä elementtejä - lintuja, kuumailmapalloja ja lentokone. Tein siis sivun lentämiseen liittyen. Sen voi tulkita liittyvän unelmien lentämiseen tai siipien antamiseen niille taikka konkreettisemmin matkustamiseen ylipäätään. 

Käytin taustaan kirjansivuja, gessoa ja Tattered Angels mistejä. Liitin tuon sydämen muotoisen kakkupaperin sivuun gessolla, gessotetun kerroksen päälle, jolloin paperi imi taustaa enemmän väriä nousen näin esiin paremmin. Lisäsin taustaan pilviä niin leimailemalla 3rd Eyen leimasimella kuin piirtelemälläkin.

Journey - let's go - Paperilla

Hello there! Here's another layout done using a kit from Paperilla. 

The topic of the page are the big sailboats that visited Helsinki this summer. I took a few photos with my phone while visiting the site and these two intrigued me with their round shapes and ropes. The kit also had perfect quotes for the page in the little cards.

Besides the materials in the kit, I used a gelly rolly pen, a pencil, watercolors, some baker's twine and a flair by 3rd Eye.

Heippa! Tässä jälleen yksi sivu, joka on tehty Paperillan kitillä. 

Isot purjelaivat saapuivat kesällä Helsinkiin ja olimme koko perhe niitä katselemassa. Näppäilin paikan päällä muutamia kuvia puhelimella ja näissä otoksissa olevat pyöreät muodot ja kyödet kiehtoivat, joten päätin tallentaa ne sivuun. Kitistä löytyi tunnelmiin hyvin sopivia lausahduksiakin.

Sivun taustaan on käytetty vain mustaa geelikynää, lyijykynää ja vesiväriroiskeita. Alapainoista asettelua tasapainottamaan lisäsin vielä "otsikoksi" ylös pari palaa kuviopaperia.

Kitin materiaalien lisäksi työssä on käytetty geelikynää, lyijykynää, vesivärejä, leipurinnyöriä ja 3rd Eyen ankkurikuvioinen koristenappi.

Pelle Jöns - Paperilla

I started blogging the creations made using Paperilla's kits last year. Here's another layout done using one of the kits. 

My younger one is a little trickster always keeping her show and amusing others. My husband refers to her sometimes as "Pelle Jöns" so I decided to use that for the title. The picture in the layout is an older one, but I think it catches her personality quite well. 

I decided to use the pink paper for the background to have a happy feeling to the page. Most of the layers on the other hand are made with black and white papers, so the contrast is really strong. The embellishments include a flair with "Lol" saying, which was quite appropriate, a fuzzy cut bike and a few arrows to guide the eye. 

Besides the kit I've used stamps, ink, the sticker alphas, a pencil, crayons and black watercolor.

Aloitin Paperillan kittien materiaaleilla tekemieni töiden bloggaamisen jo viime vuoden puolella. Tässä yksi sivu lisää.

Nuorimmaiseni on varsinainen kujeilija, pieni "Pelle Jöns", kuten ruotsinkielinen mieheni sanoo. Kuva on otettu jo tovi sitten, mutta se esittelee hänen persoonallisuuttaan varsin hyvin. 

Valitsin kitistä taustapaperiksi tämän vaaleanpunaisen, jotta sivusta tulisi iloinen. Kuviopaperikerrokset ovat puolestaan pääosin mustavalkoisia, joten kontrasti on vahva. Sivun koristeena on osuva "Lol"-nappi, kuviopaperista irti leikattu pyörä sekä muutama nuoli ohjaamassa katsetta kuvaan. Otsikko on tehty pienillä tarrakirjaimilla.

Kitin lisäksi työssä on käytetty leimoja ja leimasin mustetta, tarrakirjaimia, lyijykynää, väriliitua sekä mustaa vesiväriä.

Art Washes - Paperilla

I have been biting my tongue so hard for sometime now. Yesterday the news were released and boy am I happy to share that I will join the Design Team for 7 Dots Studio! I can't tell you how excited, honored and even ecstatic I am! 

To share the news I'm blogging this layout I did for Paperilla using one of the kits. I really like the 7 Dots Studio papers and these ones by Finnabair aren't like any other. They are so artsy, special and have amazing textures captured in them. 

The topic of this page is a quote by Pablo Picasso: "Art washes away from the soul the dust of every day life". I strongly believe that everyone who has a passion to craft and make something out of nothing can relate to this. While crafting you gain new strength and are renewed.
