It's again the 10th of the month and time for the "Inspired by" creation. But what is Inspired by? Every month wonderful Marsha and I choose a subject to be inspired by. It can be a movie (link), a painting (link) or a music style (link). Then we make something inspired by that theme or a piece of art and share it with you and each other on the 10th of the month. Here's the link to Marsha's creation this time!
This time our topic was a movie called "Perfume". Marsha had brought it up earlier, but then we went with another theme as I hadn't seen the film and she had. Then one night the movie aired on Finnish television and I immediately whatsapped to Marsha that I had seen it. So the film became a challenge theme.
Because I watched the film before I knew I was watching it for a challenge, I actually didn't make any notes about it. I remember warm color scheme, close-ups and beautiful, painting like pictures and scenes as well as a bizarre plot yet beautifully pictured scents. The scents and smells were so awesomely portrayed that I thought I was smelling the roses and the apricots!
As I didn't have any notes, I interpreted the theme more freely as I would have with the notes. (Which maybe was a good thing.) But I added a challenge for myself - to do a double pager. I usually don't make spreads anymore, but individual pages, but this theme, scent, had been in my mind for a long time and in order to scrapbook it perfectly, I needed two pages. "Why?" you ask. Because each of my girls has a unique scent. So in order to capture them both I would either have to incorporate both to the same page or then make two pages. As the topic is the same, I though a double pager would do the trick.
I chose two similar 12x12" sheets and taped them together with horizontal strips of masking tape. After that I added the gesso. Then I tried to visualise what color each of the scent was. Magically my older daughter, who's favourite color is pink, had a pink-type scent and the little one had the contrasting color, light, leafy green. Perfect! This way I could use the opposite colors to my advantage and change the colors from a single color they create together - brown. So I started spraying the colors into the papers going over the seam. So the pink one has some green in it as well as green has some pink. I wanted that the pages would fit together and they would create another piece joined, but that they would work individually, too. Like there's something same but something unique in them and their scent. So I used similar elements in both pages, but still made them personal.
After misting, I added some more mixed media touches to the background and then layered the papers on top. Still the two pages stayed attached to each other. Only after I had placed the photo on the paper I then cut the sheets separate and carried on with them separately.
First I did this right side of the pair, the one about my older daughter. I wanted to keep the page feminine and sweet to reflect her personality as much as the scent. So the black details I added on the background are almost covered and there's flowers and butterflies in the decorations.
Both of the pages have similar details in them, like the little bottles. The bottles are visible or present in the movie, too, so I thought they'd make a great detail to the pages. Both of the pages also have piece of a chipboard strip and some scattered hearts, bubble like clear epoxy stickers (these) and washi tape.
After finishing the "pink" side, I then continued with the green one. I wanted it to be more outgoing, more energetic and I guess a bit more "boyish", too. So there's more black, more hard edges and no butterflies.
Even if both the layouts have a really one sided design, I think they still work separately, too. What do you think?
Now off you go to see what Marsha has created! Here's the link! I can't wait to see what she has done this time!

What an inspirational idea to use a theme from film, painting or music. I love the adventure it took you on and the way the girl's personalites are reflected in the colour and style you chose for them. It's a knock out :)
