Smiles - Prima Marketing

Have you noticed that there's a whole bunch of new challenges at Prima blog? There's the sort of traditional BAP and PPP challenges, but now there's a new CAT also. Let me explain. The BAP is the sketch challenge. You can use the sketch to create anything even though the format of the sketch is a square. The PPP is a cobo of color palette and named products. You can use just the colors or if you have the named showed products you can use those - again, you are free to create anything! And then there's the new CAT which stands for cards and tags. In this challenge you have a sketch to work with and create cards or tags. Let me just mention that the sketch are drawn by yours truly. Here's my take on the current BAP but I also used the colors from the PPP as my jumping off point. The layout documents my astonishment and joy when I saw one of my projects on the cover of a Finnish craft magazine. 

I interpret the big letter in the sketch with a couple of smaller signs and carried the letter theme also in the background layers with a stencil and stamps. The sparkly background is mainly done using Art Alchemy paint.

Above you can see my take on the BAP sketch challenge but I also used the color palette of the PPP in my creation. Although I have to say it was handy that red was part of the palette as it's also one of the colors of the band!

 

The layout celebrates a new friend I got last winter. The title refers both us being Turisas fans (she’s the No 1 one) but also that I’m kind of her fan girl! The plan is a road trip to see the band in August, so can’t wait! Not seeing the band again but maybe even more seeing her then!

I interpret the star shape under the photo with a composition of triangle shaped papers. They are like the pointy edges of the star. But there's actual star shapes in the page as well. I added them to the background using a stencil and Color Bloom sprays and added a couple of hand drawn ones as well.

2 Musicians - Prima Marketing

The new Prima challenges are published! The PPP is full of yummy, candy-like colors and BAP is by yours truly. You cab find the announcement post and some beautiful projects here (link) in Prima blog.

I had the fun situation that I had made the BAP sketch and then I got to do the page after it! It’s so fun! When I make the sketch I might have a completely different idea in my mind than when I actually scrapbook it. 

This time I wanted to merge the sweet patterns of the “Tales of You and Me” and “Vintage Emporium” collections to some grungy paintwork. Instead of using two photos I cut my photo in two presenting the two musicians in our family - my husband and our younger daughter. Although I have to say that after doing this page my older daughter has really been intrigued by the instruments we have lying around the house! Normally it's the younger one that goes to the keyboard or kantele or drums but now it's been more the older one trying different instruments and different sounds. So intriguing to watch and listen to her experiment! 

I didn't only use the sketch in this page but also incorporated some PPP elements to the page and also followed the color scheme a little. There's the turquoise and the pink but more neutrals as in the PPP palette.

Proud of You - Prima Marketing

Hello there! I'm back from Frankfurt now. Boy that was an awesome trip! It was so great to see friends and spend time with them! I guess I even don't have to tell you that it was so amazing and special to work in the Prima booth as well, feeling so grateful for that opportunity! Thank you also for all who came by Prima booth and said hi! You really made it even more special!

During the Creativeworld I've been sharing some Prima CHA projects. This layout is also done for Prima, but using the February BAP and for the challenge reveal. The mood board and the sketch are both really hearty as it's the month of the Valentine's Day. The layout is made of my darling husband. I’m so proud of him, how his hard work is now paying off and he’s getting more invites to play. Music is his great passion like paper crafts are mine. The photo in the layout is taken by a friend of my husband’s, Mattias Noren, who’s an amazing artist and photographer. He's done the art work to both of my husband's CDs by the way.

I started the page with some gesso and then added watercolors on top using the “Tropicals” set. On top I then added two stenciled layers using ink on the other and Color Bloom on the other. The background was finished with some stamping and pencil details.

Dare to spread your wings - Prima August BAP

Hello and happy Saturday! We went for a family vacation to Berlin this week and just got back. Very inspiring city, completely fell in love with it! We spent four days in there and definitely need to get back someday to explore more. It's fun how the first trip to a new place at least in my case means going trough the "basic" sights like Brandenburg Gate; the iconic things that every tourist goes to. And the second, third visit to the same city then offers a change to really explore.  

But back to the layout I'm posting today. It may look very innocent and somewhat similar than my normal pages, but there's something very special about it. It's done for the Prima BAP challenge for August using the BAP sketch. And this time the sketch itself is by me! How awesome, unbelievable is that!

It was so fun to turn my own sketch into a page! When creating the sketch I didn't so much think how it would be executed with papers so it was fun to see it from another point of view when working with it. The main focus for me is the painty layers, the crosses and the curvy line on top. 

I mimicked the curvy line with a torn piece of patterned paper. The shape is not exactly the same but follows the wavy like shape. I highlighted the seam with pencil. As the sketch has a lot of layers, I used different mediums to create similar ones. There's mists, inks and watercolor pencils in the mix. I stamped the title using two different sayings and wrote the journaling on top of correction tape to have it showing more from the background. Two Sugardots and a rhinestone make up the triplet of circles near the photo. 

The topic of the page is the live shows I’m now doing every month – it was a leap of faith but I enjoy them so much! I'm grateful that people attend those and show up every Monday! The shows also teach me much about myself - about the way I work, how I create and what I need to improve.

House of Iron Men - Prima Marketing

Can you believe it's July already? The turn of the month also means new challenges and the reveal of the July BAP and PPP challenges in Prima blog (link). This month the sketch is by Jennifer Snyder and it's great for summer pages! This page is my very first as the team member, so exciting!

I was inspired by the watercolor style paint touches in the sketch and used watercolor pencils in my page. I used just one photo in my own page, but cut it in three parts to mimic the three photos of the sketch. There's also touches of scrip as in the sketch and some hand drawn lines as well.

The page, or the topic, itself was inspired by my father and grandfather who I both consider to be iron men of some sort. My grandfather was over 90 when he still was cutting down trees and loading them to tractor by hand. It was pure strength combined to a life time of experience at work and when I tried to help it felt that I was more in the way than helping. My father on the other hand has had health issues but he's tough, persistent and has a great view for life so I admire him very much.

So the title refers to me being of the same blood, of the same house and contains a wish that I would have the same stamina and spirit when I’m older.

I've had a few questions about how to follow my blog lately so I thought to explain it a little. There's an icon on the left sidebar that's shaped like arches, the common RSS feed kind of thing. If you click that a Feeds Burner site opens and from there you can choose the way you want to follow my blog. You can add it to your Feedly for example. From the same site you can also subscribe my blog straight to your email if you prefer to read it like that.

Oh my oh my oh my! The month of June also means a guest post for me - one I've been waiting for almost a year! Because I'm guesting on Prima. Yay! You can see the introduction post here as well as my two guest creations.

This page is done for Prima's BAP challenge in June. I immediately fell in love with the circular shapes in the sketch! One of my favorite things to do when scrapbooking is to grab a pencil and doodle loose circles to the background to guide eye in. Those swirls in the sketch reminded me of these, so I grabbed a pencil after adding some mist and paint to the page. I also added circles with two different stamp sets and added a bigger circle on top of my photo using Black Wire Thread. 

The topic of my page is the two musicians. In the picture my husband is teaching our younger one to play a guitar. A guitar he built for the kids, by the way.

Baby Sweet - Prima BAP April

Prima projects continue but this time it's a challenge piece! I was so happy to notice this month that I had time to participate to Prima's monthly challenges. Here's first my take on the BAP sketch and tomorrow I share the PPP project. 

So without further ado, here's my take on the sketch. Instead of a horizontal picture I used a vertical one, otherwise I followed the sketch quite well. 

I used a pink palette for the sweet subject. To add some contrast to it, there's also some beige in there in form of the rose paper and the cork patterned one. I also loved the grungy feel of the background paper I chose to use as it's neutral and white with a lot of interest by itself. 

I used gesso as the first medium in the page. On top I added some mist and then traced the square pattern of a Finnabair stencil with two mediums. First I used Prima watercolor pencils and made the other layer using Prima chalk ink. There's also some stamping and pencil and pen doodling in the page. 

The topic of the page is my younger one and the youngest of her second cousins. My daughter was so thrilled when so got to hold "the baby" all by herself for a moment and was cuddling and petting her whenever she got the change when we were visiting there.

Surprise - Prima BAP March

Yesterday I shared my take on the Prima PPP palette for March and today I show my take on the BAP challenge. 

I used somewhat similar colors in this page as in the PPP creation. There's the turquoise and minty green and even the gray, but I also added some aged paper beige and inky black in. The sketch itself has torn edges but I went with clean cut ones. Somehow I felt that the contrast of the romantic styled background paper and the cut edges was great and gave a nice touch to the page. 

The topic of the page is the first Finnabair DT pack. I waited for my husband to get home and only then started to open the package so that he could take a few pictures of me. (We also had this challenge with the DT to share a photo with the package.) I guess the pictures tell the story of my excitement quite well!

Atwood - Prima BAP January

It's Friday! Weekend starts and maybe some crafty time, too? I created this page last weekend for Prima's BAP challenge. As the PPP palette was really blue I went with something completely different with this and used reds, oranges and brown. I've already blogged my PPP creation for January, here's the link if you want to see (link).

The topic of the page is a writer that really mesmerized me - Margaret Atwood. I think I had read a good review of her "Blind Assassin" and loaned that one from library. I started reading it and just couldn't stop. It was always so hard to put the book down and start to sleep or doing something else. It's also the only time a complete stranger has started talking to me about a book - I was reading in a buss stop and a woman next to me started talking how the book had captured her and was so good. That first novel lead me to read some other works by her, too.

I started the page by adding a few pieces of patterned paper on top of the background. Then I added some misting, some stamping and a few touches with pencil. On top I layered some patterned papers and also left overs from a piece of resist canvas. I then embellished the page using Mechanicals, Wood Icons and even some stickers.

Oh, I guess I need to maybe mention something about that photo too. We were driving, the whole family that is - kids were asleep and I started making funny faces and taking photos. This "duck face" was so funny that I Instagrammed it and even made a print of it to be included in a layout. Somehow the silly feeling went to this page.

Hi there! How's your daily lives after Christmas getting started? I was working today so my vacations are done for the time being. Luckily there's still a few days left in December to post my Prima challenge pieces. Today I'm sharing my BAP take and tomorrow I'll blog the PPP page.

This time the BAP was winter themed but I went to another direction completely. I have had this picture in my "scrap these" pile for a while and now I felt I wanted to get this event documented. It's my daughters ad my husband in an ice skating show, Disney on Ice to be precise. The photo is colored with the show lights, presenting everything with purple and vivid pink tones and to my surprise I chose to go with a contrasting color palette with the papers and embellishments.

I mixed several different Prima collections in the paper layers sticking to the color palette I chose. I also used resist canvas, Mechanicals and a wooden embellishment in the page together with the Prima wire. 

I started the page by adhering some masking tape to the background and then continuing with gesso and mists. On top I added some stamping and also adhered a piece of the resist canvas packaging to the background.  

My girls really loved the show and I'm more than happy that Santa brought the whole family again tickets for next year to go and see the show. I'm even more happy that next year the show will have snippets of Frozen as well as it's the girls favorite film so far.
