It's again the 10th of the month and time for the "Inspired by" creation! But what is Inspired by? Every month awesome Marsha and I choose a subject to be inspired by. It can be a movie (link), an item (link), a designer (link), a painting (link) or a piece of music (link). Then we make something inspired by that theme or a piece of art and share it with you and each other on the 10th of the month.
First things first - here's the link to Marsha's blog to see her creation! I did a canvas for this challenge. First I thought about scrapbooking pages or other crafts but somehow another lady canvas seemed to be the thing. As he had done several series of seasons and I had done spring canvas already I thought to make an autumn lady.
This time we drew inspiration from Alphonse Mucha. He was a Czech artist mostly known for his poster art revolutionizing the whole genre. He lived during the Art Nouveau time and drew the most beautiful ladies in flowing dresses and waving hair. More about him here (link).
I'm not sure how we came to pick him in the first place. I just remember we both having an interest to his art and both were of course familiar with him. We also set up a Pinterest board with his works and a few items that reminded us about of him.

Even though his color scheme was subtle and creamy I chose to go with stronger palette as it reminded me about poster art and the autumn colors are really vibrant. I chose to make a blue background like those velvety autumn nights and her hair just couldn't be anything than flaming scarlet.
As Mucha used ornamental circles and backgrounds in his ladies, I also made one. I drew a circle behind her head and then decorated that with little drawn maple leaves and tiny circles. Her hair is decorated with metal embellishments and flowers. I tried to pick flowers that had an autumn feel to them like poppies.
My inspiration was also the ornate hair dresses the Mucha ladies sometimes have. I thought it would be fun to see them in 3D. In fact Mucha also designed jewelry but to me those actual pieces seem more bulky and rigid that the drawn ones. It's like Erte - the drawings of his costumes are fabulous but the actual realizations don't reach the style of the drawings. It's reality in action - the gravity takes its toll!
