Valentine's Gift - Mixed Media Place

Good evening! It was my day over at Mixed Media Place yesterday! As it's soon Valentine's Day so I thought to make a little gift box and card as my monthly project. I started with creating a pink paper and then added the embellishments on top. I made the two similar in appearance so they could be given as a set but of course they work on their own, too.

I happened to have heart shaped doilies in my stash. No better time to use them than Valentine's Day! I added the embellishments on top of the delicate doilies, creating clusters. The latest additions to the store including the roses and chipboard, inspired me to go feminine and soft with the decorations.

I customized the embellishments a little, adding my own touch to them. For the white roses I used a touch of Gelatos and then spread the color with water. The silver ones I treated with pink alcohol inks to match the candy-like palette. The chipboard clock arms I painted with white gesso and lastly added a hint of white on top of the flowers with it, too.

One of my favorite ways to include Primary Element pigments to crafts is to mix them with decoupage glue and create a glaze that way. For these crafts I used two shades of pink, a lighter one which I spread first and then a hot pink one that I added here and there.

As I said in the beginning, I created a subtle pink patterned paper for the both crafts. If you want to do similar, just follow the steps underneath!

Hyvää iltaa! Eilen oli päiväni Mixed Media Placen blogissa! Koska ihan pian on ystävänpäivä, halusin tehdä jotain siihen liittyvää.

Valkoisiin ruusuihin sipaisin hiukan Gelatos-liitua, jonka sitten levitin vedellä. Hopeiset kukat saivat päälleen vaaleanpunaisia alkoholimusteita ja chipboard kellonviisarin maalsin gessolla. Lopuksi lisäsin hiukan gessoa myös kukkiin.

Yksi lempitavoistani lisätä Primary Element -pigmenttejä töihini on sekoittaa niitä serviettilakkaan ja luoda siten läpikuultava efekti. Näihin töihin käytin kahta erisävyistä pinkkiä pigmenttiä - vaaleampaa punaista isommalle alueelle ja tummempaa pinkkiä sinne tänne.

Kuten mainitsin alussa, tein molemmissa töissä näkyvän vaaleanpunaisen paperin itse. Jos haluat luoda jotain vastaavaa tai vaan nähdä, miten paperi syntyi, kurkkaa vaihekuvat alempaa!

Background tutorial
Taustatutoriaali

1. Take a piece of cardstock. I used the Eco cardstock for my background. Color the piece roughly with Gelatos mixing the colors slightly together. Spray with water and even the strokes of color with a brush.
1. Nappaa pala kartonkia. Käytin itse MMPn Eco kartonkia. Värittele tausta Gelatos liiduilla sekoittaen värejä hiukan toisiinsa. Sumuta päälle vettä ja levitä värit siveltimellä.

2. Choose a stencil with a repeating, simple design. Add Distress Ink with a foam applicator to the paper to create a subtle layering.
2. Valitse sabluuna, jossa on toistuva, yksinkertainen kuvio. Lisää Distress Ink -musteita musteenlevitystyökalulla sabluunan läpi ja luo hienovarainen kuviokerros.

3. Then add yet another layer using another, more intricate stencil and more opaque color. I used a doily stencil by Prima Marketing and a chalk edger.
3. Sitten lisää toinen kerros käyttäen yksityiskohtaisempaa sabluunaa ja peittävämpää väriä. Itse käytin Priman pitsiliinasabluunaa sekä chalk-mustetta.

4. Time to add the Valentine touch - some penciled hearts! Draw a heart pattern to the piece and then highlight a few with a Gelato crayon.
4. Aika lisätä ystävänpäiväteemaan sopiva yksityiskohta - piirreltyjä sydämiä! Piirrä sydämet lyijykynällä ja väritä niistä muutamaa Gelatos-liidulla.

5. Last step is to add some "light" to the background. Take a little gesso and water it down to consistence of milk. Then splash the paint to the piece and dry with a heat gun. Cut the ready piece to fit your project whether it is a layer to the background or die cut to be used as an embellishment.
5. Viimeisenä yksityiskohtana on "valon" lisääminen taustaan.

Oh more pretty cards and awesome backgound. That was one of the things that I have enjoyed so much about the Pop and Colours... I love the backgrounds but I am just too rigid and in all of the tuts the one thing I noticed was just put stuff down and add layers, and more layers, and even more layers. I have been playing but I am just not FREE enough yet :D

Thank you Val! And you got that one right! I just said in my workshop that the thing I have learned is to have faith and layer. :)
