Inspired by: Childish things

Jälleen on aika Marsha-haasteen!

It's again time for a Marsha challenge! You can find the earlier challenges from Marsha's blog herehere and here. My creations from the same challenges can be seen in herehere and here.

This time the inspiration came from a packet I had sent to Marsha. I tried to include five senses to the package and while adding this to it, I noticed a childish theme, too. The package included an old book page from an old children's story book, illustrated by Finnish illustrator Rudolf Koivu (sight), nursery rhymes cd (hearing), Geisha chocholate bar (taste), "Emperor's Bride" tea bag (scent) and a  piece of woollen yarn (feel). You can find Marsha's take on the same package from this link.

Please scroll down to rea more about the page and how it came to into being.

Piirsin tyttelin kraftille kalligrafia tussilla, jotta sain viivasta hiukan elävän.

When first thinking about the challenge, I immediately got an image of Koivu style lady. Because the images in the story book are rather small, I had to drew the lady myself. There has been some time since I last drew something, so it took me three attempts to draw the lady. Third time's the charm?  I drew the character to a sheet of white paper and then transfered the image to the kraft backgound.

I drew the lady with calligraphy marker in order to get the line more vibrant. Then I added the black shodow parts and thicker lines with black Copic Ciao. I used mists for the colouring - sprayed them on to the crafting mat and then transfered the paint with a brush to the image. For the skintone I used tea and used it like a watercolour.

I also knew early on, that I would make the layout of my two girls. Well, most of my pages are of my girls, but to this childish theme I wanted to include them, not my own childhood. Because the lady was quite big and overpowering, the photo had to be small, strong and with a great contrast. At this point the lady was only in black and white, I choose to colours according to the photo.

I chose to use this little picture, where my girls are playing in the park. The lilac to the page came from my older daughter's skirt. I atteched some yarn underneath the photo. The yarn isn't the same as in Marsha's kit, but a yarn anyway. The colouring if the yarn became partly from Lene Neby, because I just had pinned this layout by her to my Pinterest board. So I added a great amount of Glimmer Mists and Color Wash on top of the yarn I had glued to the background.

I finished the layout with different embellishments and a little sticker that's the title as well. The journaling is behind the page and it's about the imagination of children and about this challenge itself. I colored the embellishments with the same mists I had used in otherwise in the layout.

From the package I used: the lady (style from Koivu's illustration), childish twist (the story book page + cd), tea (as a paint), yarn (under the photo) and dreamlike atmosphere, which I connect with illustrations by Koivu and also to the Geisha chocolate bar's commercials (their slogan is "there's a piece of dream in every day").

So that's how I did this page. Should I dare to draw something this big to a layout another time, too?

I can't believe that drawing, it's beautiful! Tea as watercolour... I did think about that, but totally forgot! And you know what I love the most about this particular challenge? That we both choose to do a technique out of our comfort zone: I broke in my never before used oil pastels and you drew on a lay-out! So cool! Thank you!

Kiva tarina ja toteutus sen ympärille. :) Piirros on lumoava! Teellä on kiva värjäillä papereita, saa niin luonnollisia sävyjä. :)

Kaunis, satumainen sivu!
