Happy Saturday! Life is an adventure at CSI today! Here's my page to the Case File #87. The colors in the palette fitted these photos perfectly as well as the subject fitted the Evidence. My page is about cycling but also about how my first born is growing up.
Although I have posted about my CSI process before (at least in this linked post), I thought it would be fun for you to again see how I tackle a Case File. So before I started working on the actual page, I took a picture of the products I had gathered for this particular challenge. I usually gather myself "a kit" when the new Files are announced to the DT and then when I have the time, I just grab a kit and start working.
The first thing I do is to go through my papers with the color scheme in mind. I try to find a few 12x12" sheets to be used as a background and smaller pieces of paper for each color. Sometimes I rule out a color from the papers because the color combination doesn't fit my style, but then I have to bear in mind to add the color somehow to the page. The lovely part with CSI is that the the amount of color isn't restricked in any way - the colors can be used in just one brad or a small detail, not all of the colors have to be big pieces of paper.
So when I have my papers sorted I tackle the embellishments. For this part I use the Evidence. For example the butterflies were mentioned there so I gathered a few options on those as well as "transportation accents" - the bicycles. I also try to add pieces that are leftovers from previous creations (like the die cut piece of sticky back canvas) or embellishments that I really would like to use in order to get something new (like the rub-ons and the big BasicGrey sticker sheet). Sometimes I also add embellishments that aren't mentioned in the Evidence part but bring the required colors to my page. For these I used brads, buttons or other small items. And while working I can still add my basic embellisments to the mix - like chipboard shapes, flair buttons or paperclips.
After gathering the supplies it's easy to start working on a page. First I do the mixed media background and then start layering the papers I have chosen. Sometimes the gathered papers aren't enough so I need to go and grab some more while creating, but the base of the layout is gathered before I even start working. When working on a "normal" layout, not for a CSI challenge, I don't usually gather anything but start working and see where the process takes me.
I told here how I gather my supplies for a File, but actually the very fist thing when I start working is to check the Testimony part and see if it springs up an idea about the page. If not or if there's options that can be used for any page, I check out my photos and choose something either based on the colors or a subject I really want to document. Then I have my photos and a printed version of the Case file and carry on to the gathering supplies.

Iloista lauantaita! Elämä on yhtä seikkailua CSIssa! Tässä sivuni haasteeseen #87. Haasteen väripaletti sopi mainiosti näihin kuviin samoin kuin aihe "Evidence"-osion juttuihin. Tarinointi kertoo paitsi pyöräilystä myös siitä, miten esikoinen kasvaa.
Vaikka olen aiemminkin postannut siitä, miten alan CSI-sivua työstää (ainakin tässä linkitetyssä postauksessa) niin ajattelin, että olisi hauska kirjoittaa siitä taas. Joten ennen kuin aloin työstää sivua, nappasin kuvan keräämistäni materiaaleista. Yleensä, heti kun uudet haasteen julkaistaan DTlle, kokoan itselleni "kitin" jokaiseen haasteeseen ja sitten kun on sopiva hetki, nappaan sen ja alan työstää sivua.
Ensimmäiseksi keräilen paperit haastetta varten pitäen mielessä annetun väripaletin. Pyrin löytämään pari 12x12" arkkia taustavaihtoehdoiksi sekä pienempiä paperipalasia jokaisesta annetusta väristä. Joskus jätän jonkun värin pois paperikerroksista, sillä se ei tunnu sopivan omaan tyyliini, mutta silloin minun pitää pitää mielessä, että liitän värin sivuun jollakin muulla tavalla. Minusta CSIssa on mukavaa se, ettei annettujen värien määrää ole sivussa mitenkään rajattu - ne voivat esiintyä pienessä koristeessa tai isona paperipintana.
Kun olen kerättynyt paperit on koristeiden vuoro. Tähän osioon käytän "Evidence"-listaa. Esimerkiksi tässä haasteessa oli mainittu perhoset, joten nappasin varastoistani muutamia vaihtoehtoja niistä samoin kuin "liikenneaiheisista koristeista" eli polkupyöristä. Pyrin myös lisäämään kittiin aiemmista sivuista jääneitä palasia (kuten stanssattu canvas pala) tai koristeita, jotka haluan käyttää pois, jotta tulee tilaa uusille (kuten perhosraaputuskuvat taikka BasicGreyn iso tarra-arkki). Joskus lisään joukkoon myös muita koristeita, joita ei ole mainittu listassa, mutta jotka tuovat väripaletin värejä sivuun. Tällaisina käytän esimerkiksi nappeja, haaraniittejä tai muita pieniä koristeita. Ja sivua työstäessäni saatan hyvinkin lisäillä joukkoon lempikoristeitani kuten chipboard-kuvioita, flair-nappeja taikka paperiliittimiä.
Kun olen kerännyt kaikki tarvikkeet on sivun aloittaminen helppoa. Ensin teen taustan sekatekniikalla ja etenen kerrostamaan valitsemiani papereita. Joskus ne eivät yksinään riitä ja joudun etsimään pieniä palasia tekoprosessin aikana, mutta koska sivun pohja on kerätty jo valmiiksi on tuotteita helppo täydentää. Kun työstän "perussivua", sivua, joka ei ole CSI-haasteeseen, en yleensä kerää mitään valmiiksi vaan katson, minne prosessi minut vie.
Kerroin tässä miten kerään tarvikkeita sivuun, mutta itseasiassa aivan ensimmäinen juttu, kun alan CSI sivua työstää, on käydä läpi "Testimony"-osio. Katson, josko sieltä löytyy suoraan idea sivuun tai vaihtoehto, joka käy mihin tahansa sivuun. Sitten valitsen kuvan joko värien tai aiheen perusteella ja alan koota "kittiä". Pussiin menee ensimmäisenä valitut kuvat ja pieni printattu kuva haasteesta.
