Inspired by: Tray

Today it's "Inspired by" day! Every month lovely Marsha and me choose a subject to be inspired by. It has been a movie (link), a painting (link) and a music style (link). Then we make something inspired by that theme or a piece of art and share it with you and each other on the 10th of the month. It used to be the 1st, but due to various DT commitments we both have, we moved the reveal to the 10th.

This time we went altered! We were throwing ideas what could be altered and decided to go with a tray this time. I had an idea immediately what I could do with a tray. I think I have seen something similar in some manufacture's blog sometime. But take a look what Marsha has created this time -here's the link to her tray craft!

I turned the tray to a memory board. For this I needed a metal tray and went looking for one in a drift store. I was so happy when I found one really ugly (sorry if the first picture is to your liking!) and cheap. For me it didn't matter what color or pattern the tray was, only that it must be made of metal.

First thing I did was to choose a patterned paper to go at the back. I found this great yellow Studio Calico paper in my stash and was happy about those little hearts the figures create. This paper set the color scheme together with the colors of our home - black and white.

Then it was time to get rid of the Christmas pattern - I painted the edges of the tray with gesso a couple of times. After the gesso had dried I added a black pattern using black acrylic paint and a stencil by Crafter's Workshop. To tie the yellow paper better to the rest of the craft, I misted the inside of the tray with yellow TA mist.

Then I created an embellishment cluster to the edge. There's a round chipboard, a tag, some washi, metal embellishments and a flower. I painted the most of them with gesso and then sprayed with the same yellow mist. Then I attached the patterned paper with gel medium.

I finished the craft with some black splashes and made two magnets to the board using yellow buttons. The memo board now hangs in our kitchen.

Materials: Studio Calico, Talens (Tempera), Wycinanka, Tattered Angels, Crafter's Workshop
