Akki Pam (tutorial)

I'm pretty sure that nobody understod what the title of this post means. That's because it's the language of my two-year-old. She calls the memory game in my phone "akki pam" and it doesn't have much resemblance to the actual word "muistipeli". But the main thing is to get your point across so every time she asks for "akki pam", she wants to play the memo game.

I used pastels and oil pastels in creating this page and I thought it would be fun to share the process here.

Place your stencil to a scrapbooking paper and trace the design with an oil pastel. A plain paper or one with a subtle pattern will work best for this technique. You can use any color you like or even two colors. I chose to use a pink one - a color picked from the photo I'm going to use for this layout. Trace the outline of some shapes and fill others with lines, dots or small doodlings.

Then choose another, contrasting color from pastels and color all the shapes you have drawn. The oil pastel will resist the pastel. Color also a few extra shapes with just the pastel.

Finish the background technique with a black pen. You can of course use any color, but I think black gives a nice contrast to the design and really binds it all together. Trace the outline of some of the shapes with it and draw a few extra.

Add some splashes of color with mists or watercolors. Then add the photo, some pieces of patterned papers and embellishments.

Finish the page with a little hand drawn detail - trace the shape of punchinella with a black pen. The little circles remind me of confetti, so scatter them around the page and the design.

The background is like a pattern from the 1950's but still looks so totally cool and modern!
