Happy Easter and welcome to the Easter blog hop! Today is the day when we tumble down the rabbit's hole and hop after the White Rabbit. The rabbit hops from blog to blog, from country to country all around the cyber scrapbooking world!
Although the countries and styles vary and designers participating had a free choice what to create for the hop, the pieces of art have all something in common. If you're familiar with Alice in Wonderland, you might remember that the White Rabbit, which Alice followed and found the Wonderland, had a pocket watch. So in this hop the common theme is a time piece. You can find an interpretation or a way to incorporate a clock in every creation! Inspiring, right?
There's also possibility to win great prizes! So please hop along and remember to leave a comment at every stage! That way you ensure as many tickets for the raffle as possible. You'll have just a week to participate (to April 8th at noon GMT) for the giveaway put together from donations from 7 Dots Studio, BadgesFolie, Garn&Mehr, Stromsvigt and Wycinanka. There's three prizes to be won and there might be something extra along the hop, too.
So enjoy the hop and find the inspiring Wonderland of scrapbooking! Good luck for the raffle, too!
I did this layout for the hop together with a little tutorial. I guess some of the time pieces are pretty obvious, but can you spot all of them? There's two different stamps, one awesome picture of a clock (find out more later in the hop!), an embossing folder, a die and an embellishment. I also thought the date stamp would go nicely to the theme.
The layout is about my 4-year-old, how has grown up so fast! I know it's a cliché, but hey, she has grown sooo fast! It feels it was only yesterday when I sat down on our cough, holding her in my arms and thought that now we're a family.
There's some mixed media action here. For the background I used gesso, Tattered Angels mists and some inks, too. There's not many patterned papers apart from that background paper by 7 Dots Studio, because the clockwork takes so much space. If you want to know, how I created it, just follow the steps underneath! And don't forget to hop after the rabbit - your next stop is Em!
First cover a piece of cardstock with aluminium tape or foil and emboss the piece uning an embossing folder that has gears in it. My folder is from Cuttlebug.
Then cut the embossed piece out of it's background. The more detail you cut, the more awesome the end result. Also cut a few gears with a die. I used a die by Sizzix.
Then it's time to get some color on the pieces! Using alcohol inks, color both the gears and the embossed piece. I chose to use yellow, orange and brown, but you can use the colors that go with your layout.
Ink the surface of the embossed piece and parts of the diecut pieces with solvent ink. Tap the ink straight from the ink pad.
Then it's time to add the clocks! Stamp some clock images with the ink of your choise. I used black Archival.
After the ink has dried, add a coat of embossing ink and emboss the clock faces twice with clear embossing powder. This gives them a enamel-like appearance.
Then it's time to put everything together. Glue the clock faces in place and then attach the diecut gears with foam squares to give the whole piece some 3 D effect.
Here's the finished clockwork - although I added the gears afterwards when I knew how the pice situated with the photo and rest of the elements in the layout.
